h Bryants Minstrels, one Saturday night in 1859, Bryant saidto him: Dan, cant you getus up a walk-around? Ineed something new forMonday night. At that time, all minstrelshows used to end up witha walk-around. Dan Em-mett remained in the houseall day Sunday; but by theafternoon, he had the wordscommencing: I wish I wasin Dixie! Thompsonand Judge Daniel were among them. Trav made the pointthat a nations song was its trademark and should be veri-fied; but we were all too much in a hurry to stop andthink in those days; and I have no recollection that Dixieever came up as a contention thereafter, even in the Mosaic. It fitted into the time, was accepted as a Southern song, necessarily by a Southern man; and that was the end ofit. Was it both, or either ? Daniel Decatur Emmett was born in Mt.
