he Hamilton Walk side of the system before the Quads willbe completely enclosed. The dormitories were designed by Cope and Stewardson, andare mostly in the English Collegiate style, with Elizabethan de-tail, and with their spacious courtyards strongly suggest theOxford and Cambridge colleges; while the carved bosses inthe main cornices are reminiscent of the Gothic period in archi-tecture. The architecture of the buildings enclosing the SouthQuad differs somewhat from the Jacobean surroundings of themain portion of the dormitory buildings, having a Tudor at-mosphere, the limestone trimmings and overhanging eaves beingno longer in evidence.
