Category:List-only national film categories

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia:WikiProject Film's current practice is that "Country films" categories should be diffused as much as possible, with virtually all films sorted into appropriate subcategories based on characteristics such as genre, time period, length or language instead of being filed directly in "Country films" itself — however, as the process is not fully complete in all cases, and films sometimes still get added to "Country films" categories they should not be in, this requires ongoing monitoring. This category accordingly exists to aid the process of checking categories and recategorizing articles when necessary.

All "Country films" categories should accordingly be in one of three classes:

  • Category:Fully diffused national film categories — All films are already appropriately subcategorized, and a "Lists of Country films" category also exists to contain the lists, so these categories should always be container-only and any film titles appearing in them should be reassigned to subcategories.
  • Category:List-only national film categories (this category) - All films are already appropriately subcategorized, but a "Lists of Country films" category doesn't exist to contain the lists yet, so any lists should be directly filed in the category but any film titles appearing in them should be reassigned to subcategories.
  • Category:Undiffused national film categories - Category has not actually been diffused at all yet, so appropriate subcategories may not exist at all and film titles should continue to appear directly in the main category for the time being.

In the categories filed here, the creation of a "Lists of X films" category, and the reassignment of lists to it, may be appropriate if there are multiple lists, but should not be done if there's only one list. If you proceed with creating a subcategory for the lists, then move the relevant category from here to Category:Fully diffused national film categories once it's been fully containerized.
