distinction?[edit]

How is this distinct from Category:Roman Catholics? Isn't "Catholic" generally synonymous with "Roman Catholic"? — ChristTrekker 15:44, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the West it is, somewhat wrongly. yes. However Wikipedia isn't owned by the US/UK/Australia. The Catholic Church contains several rites. The dominant one is Roman and all are in submission to the Bishop of Rome, but the others do not refer to themselves as Roman Catholic. For example Sister Marie Keyrouz refers to herself as "a Maronite from her family's side and a Melkite through her religious congregation" and so identifying her as Roman Catholic could be misleading even if she is in communion with Rome. Likewise some recent schismatic groups use the term "Catholic." It's understandable that this might be a bit confusing, but it is the way it is.--T. Anthony 10:32, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation[edit]

@Johnbod: @Laurel Lodged: It seems to me evident from both the history of this category but most importantly from how Catholics and Catholic redirect to Catholic Church, that this category should be categorised into Category:Catholic Church. PPEMES (talk) 00:17, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. It is PPEMES who is responsible for making the redirects and then using their own edits to justify further identification of Catholicism and catholic with the Roman variety. This has been going on for years under different guises. Oculi (talk) 10:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
