There is supposedly an additional "law of economics" that has a name, although seeing that it is not listed on this page makes me skeptical, wondering whether the person who espoused this "law" did so to give his assertion more credibility than it really deserved.

He stated that this "law" would imply that a person who buys an energy efficient automobile (such as a hybrid) will drive more miles so that the total amount of dollars (spent on gas) or carbon (going into the atmosphere) would end up being substantially the same as when he was driving a less energy efficient car.

Note that this is not the law of supply and demand, nor was it expressed as a simple result of utility versus price. The latter would not lead to a very general law anyhow, since Prospect Theory might well lead to a different result, particularly when the purchase and use of gas is increasingly framed in the context of a crisis of energy and environment (climate change).

Maybe this note will spur some knowledgeable person to write it up, if such a law really exists. Carlfoss 05:11, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
