Original research[edit]

I removed the invented definition for 'settlement' on the category page. It was original research, unsupported by any dictionary. -- Donald Albury 17:11, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The definition I have restored is supported by reliable published sources. The previous definition was not sourced at all, and appears to be original research, and thus not allowed in Wikipedia. This case is independent of any discussion at CfD, as a CfD consensus cannot override the verification and original research policies. -- Donald Albury 18:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category sorting[edit]

The agreed definition of settlements precludes such official populated areas as villages and larger. Also smaller districts and areas of urban areas such as suburbs or boroughs would not come under the scope of settlements. However, refuge and transient camps would come under settlements. categories[edit]

Calling this 'category sorting' is a misuse of the term. It is a bad faith effort to get around the Cfd decisions. Hmains 05:30, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
