Embry J. Kidd is an American lawyer who has served as a United States magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida since 2019. He is a nominee to serve as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Education[edit]
Kidd earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in 2005 and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 2008.[1]
Career[edit]
From 2008 to 2009, he served as a law clerk for Judge Roger Gregory of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. From 2009 to 2014, he worked as an associate at Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C. From 2014 to 2019, he served as an assistant United States attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.[1]
Federal judicial service[edit]
Kidd assumed office as a United States magistrate judge on July 25, 2019.[2]
Nomination to court of appeals[edit]
On May 8, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Kidd to serve as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.[3] On May 24, 2024, his nomination was sent to the Senate.[4] President Biden nominated Kidd to the seat being vacated by Judge Charles R. Wilson, who will assume senior status on December 31, 2024.[5] His nomination is pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
