The Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Cinema is a film conference held annually in Venice during the Venice Film Festival, and it is organized by the Italian Committee of the International Council for Film Television and Audiovisual Communication affiliated to  UNESCO, under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and in collaboration with the European Parliament, Rome office..[1][2].

The Conference was established to form a forum where the various protagonists of the Region work on the role that cinema and new media can play in the process of integration of the Mediterranean, identifying and promoting concrete initiatives to support the Euro-Mediterranean dialogue[3]

Over the years, the Conference has promoted many initiatives, such as the foundation of new film festivals in Albania, Croatia, Turkey, Gaza, Greece, Tunisia, Morocco, and Syria, which together constitute the MCM (Council of the Cinematographic Events in the Mediterranean)[4]; the contribution to the establishment of the CO.Pe.A.M. (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators)[5]; the participation in the UNESCO Mediterranean Programme and in the Euromed Audiovisual Programme[6]; the co-management of UNTV at the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) at the United Nations in 2005 in Tunis; the creation of the annual CICT-UNESCO "Enrico Fulchignoni Award"[7]; the support to the European Parliament's Lux Prize and the foundation of OCCAM - Observatory on Digital Communication by UNESCO[8].

Fulchignoni Award[edit]

The Fellini Medal

The "Enrico Fulchignoni Award" is a film prize that has been awarded since 1989 during the Euro-Mediterranean Conference on cinema at the Venice Film Festival. The prize is dedicated to Enrico Fulchignoni, Italian playwright who has been director of the UNESCO "Film Section" and president of the International Council of Cinema and Television, as well as director of the "Venezia gente" section at the Venice International Film Festival[7]. The winner of the Fulchignoni Award receives UNESCO's "Fellini Medal"[32]
