Frederick Ried Roos (May 22, 1934 – May 18, 2024) was an American film producer.

Biography[edit]

Frederick Ried Roos was born on May 22, 1934, in Santa Monica, California, the son of Florence Mary (née Stout) and Victor Otto Roos.[1] He attended Hollywood High School and subsequently attended University of California, Los Angeles, majoring in theatre arts and motion pictures.[2][3]

He started his career in television as a casting director for The Andy Griffith Show. Later, he produced most of Francis Ford Coppola's films subsequent to The Godfather, including Apocalypse Now and Youth Without Youth. Roos won the Oscar for Best Film for producing The Godfather Part II.

In 2007, he was a member of the jury at the 29th Moscow International Film Festival.[4]

Roos died on May 18, 2024 at the age of 89.[5]
