I am John E. McCabe, Jr. 0-826247. I joined the 327 Bomb Squadron as copilot to Donald I. Greene in August 1944. Greene was promoted to a lead pilot in December 1944. I was promoted to Aircraft Commander at that time and Green's crew was assigned to me for the rest of our tour of 35 missions. We sustained sufficient damage to the wings on our aircraft during three missions to Merseberg Germany that one wing on each missio had to be replaced. Our radio operated received a flak wound to his lip on one mission, however a purple heart was denied because the wound was not serious enough.
