is it really true?[edit]
Hi, did anyone own this Unesco-Paper offline? - And indeed, it reads the resolution as quoted in the Wikipedia article. However, I sense that there is a mistake (or maybe even a wise trick) that the previous authors made: UNESCO does not celebrate the year 1981 as the Atatürk Year in the World. The year 1981 is in fact celebrated as the International Year of Disables Persons (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Year_of_Disabled_Persons )
- What the resolution refers is rather the celebration of Ataturk's 100th birthday in Turkey, I mean, locally. And UNESCO agrees that Ataturk is an important leader, and this celebration can be supported by UNESCO, such as by this resolution. The only action taken by the UNESCO therefore is to approve an international symposium on Ataturk, whose financial expenses will be paid by the Turkish government. And as much as I know, that symposium was indeed held in Istanbul, Turkey in 1981.
- p.s. I am editing the page thereby. I would appreciate any interested parties who have the sufficient evidence that shows otherwise to bring them here to discuss, or cite properly in the article, so that the rest of the Wikipedia community can reach and challenge OR confirm the sources.

- Hi there, after more than 10 years comes the next contribution to the discussion. I also couldn't find any Atatürk year declared by the Unesco. Unesco sure cooperated with Turkey in their celebration of the Atatürk Centennial, and published an issue on him in the Unesco courier in 1981. But that's it so far. I've adapted the article since a bit, and will adapt it more. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 01:34, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
