Minimal. Put UK first because prototype. Needs expansion. Some details. Appleton was director during latter part of WWII. R.A. Smith got DSIR support for start of Solid State work at TRE. DSIR Information Committee funded start of British Library. I was on it during early discussions 1964 to 1965. That does not verify, but suggests topics to dig for.
