Inscription[edit]

Excuse my poor understanding of Catalan, I gather the inscription to read: In the Moat of the Fallen, no traitors are buried. Though the banners of honor are lost, this place honors the heros of 1714.

Excuse my poor english, too. From your translation, I think you understood the idea behind the inscription however, my idea was to, not only offer a meaning translation for the english speakers, but also to keep the words the poet used to express the idea or at least present the idea in a similar fashion.

Fossar de les moreres literally means the moat of the mulberries which is the name of the place, so it is off course a moat where the fallen where buried but it actually isn't its name.

Regarding "no traitors is buried", the catalan versions speaks in present time, thus, it refers more to the future than past. In fact, the original poem expose the fall of Barcelona from the point of view of a 1714 citizen. Thus,imo, he is refering more to future burials than already fallen soldiers.

for the second part, I agree with "Though the banners of honor are lost", sound much better :P .
