Reads like a tourist brochure[edit]

In my opinion, most of this article (including a real estate link that I fixed) is a tourism promotion rather than an encyclopedia article. There are no references (such as, who calls the Gocek coves a "hidden paradise", and who says the harbor is "safe"?). No objective encyclopedia mentions that a town contains "two big grocery shops", so neither should Wikipedia. I don't mind that there is an article for this small city. It's a real place, and there is some economic activity there (mostly tourism). However, the current article is not up to Wikipedia standards. The second half of the article should be deleted outright, and the other half should be rephrased in a more objective tone. GaryGo (talk) 00:07, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I have made some simple copy-editing changes and re-arranged the text a bit in an attempt to avoid repetition and to group related themes together. However, work is still needed, and it does read very much like tourist brochure. There is no reason, however, why there should not be a Wikipedia article about Göcek, and naturally that article will talk about the fact the town is a centre for tourism and boating, but the article needs to be worded more objectively, and some of the information about ordinary amenities (e.g. details about the number of butcher's and grocer's shops) needs to go. Aegean ?[edit]

According to the sidebox Göcek is in the Aegean Region. But, according to maps it is in Mediterranean Region. (Same is true for the eatern half of Muğla Province). Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 09:06, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Recommend deletion of link[edit]

Removal of surname link[edit]

User:Martinvl removed a link to a Wiktionary article for surname Gocek, saying, "Why should a Czech surname have any relevance to a Turkish village apart from them having the same spelling?" Because, there is no Wikipedia article for the surname, and "Gocek" is redirected to "Göcek", so it seems like a reasonable compromise to include a link to the Wiki that has the surname info. A WP article for the surname is not likely to be created soon. Göcek remains an unreferenced tourist brochure, and you're worried about the surname link?
