Not Irish[edit]

I don't believe he self-identified as Irish; his father was a military man, probably why Henry was born at the Birr Barracks. This was before Ireland's independence. Badagnani (talk) 04:35, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Irish people didn't just appear out of nowhere in 1922! If he was born in Ireland, then he was Irish (whether pre- or post-independence), unless there is evidence to the contrary. So far the article merely says he was born in Birr, but if you have reliable sources to add evidence about his father being a military man on a short posting, why not add it to the article with references. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 05:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources describe him as British. I've mentioned that the Grove Dictionary describes him as British and that his father was a military man at a well-known barracks in the Irish midlands, most likely posted there to keep the local Irish down. Badagnani (talk) 05:49, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His archive site in Glasgow states that his father was serving in the Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment of the British Army. Badagnani (talk) 05:58, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
