Whats his significance?[edit]

This article is really long for a minor SS officer. What is his significance? Also, why is the article written in such a fawning tone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by THEMlCK (talkcontribs) 08:59, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert-Erwin Meierdress held off a major Soviet Counteroffensive and saved German forces from complete encirclement using just 120 men, 30 of whom survived. He was awarded the Knights Cross for his actions, and his story was published in the SS Magazine DAS SCHWARZE KORPS. German propaganda would have been all over this, and Meierdress would have been a known hero of the Reich, even more so as his career progressed. This man saw ferocious combat on the Eastern-Front and nearly survived to see the end of the war. His decorations include the Wound Badge in GOLD (awarded for five or more times wounded, total blindness, "loss of manhood", or severe brain damage via hostile action), Tank Assault Badge, Iron Cross First and Second Class, the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross (as previously mentioned), with Oak Leaves (a separate award for another act of valor in combat equal to that of the one in which he received his first Knight's Cross, awarded to him personally by Adolf Hitler on 5 October 1943), and he was an enlisted man serving in the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler from 1934-1938 when he had the opportunity to go to SS Officer Schule. So needless to say, his resume speaks as to why he is significant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.6.103.51 (talk) 21:08, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all, anonymous IP. How is this officer truly significant to history? There are many decorated officers who don't have any articles in Wiki (not that that is a conclusive point.) Can someone cite a source that is claiming his actions had a significant impact on the war or the occupied countries? HammerFilmFan (talk) 21:31, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will condense this article further -- it appears that the subject is not notable enough as no citations have been added in the past 9 years (the article has been tagged since 2007). K.e.coffman (talk) 19:48, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
