This could be written along with a mechanistic drawing.

"Oxo acids" > "keto acids"?[edit]
The IUPAC Gold Book says:
"Compounds having a carboxy group as well as an aldehydic or ketonic group in the same molecule, e.g. HC(=O)CH2CH2CH2C(=O)OH 5-oxopentanoic acid. In an organic context the term is generally shortened to oxo acids. The full name should be used if confusion with oxoacids seems possible. "
It seems "oxo acids" or "oxo carboxylic acids" (which is the IUPAC recommended name for the so-called "oxo acids" similar to the definition in this article) refers to more than just keto acids. Now what should we do with that?
PS. I am also going to add a "no-confuse" with "oxoacids", i.e. acids containing oxygen in a hydroxyl group. Thomas J. S. Greenfield (talk) 12:36, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
