Compare this article to List of airports in France, which has several hundred airports. Even the U.S. DAFIF has over 150 airports, as listed here (among other places). Is anyone interested in filling this in? David 11:11, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder. The German wiki list appears to be even shorter at 40 entries. EDKA for example isn't even mentioned although the city of Aachen is well known and not too small. This is because the German wiki list only contains "all German airports currently classified as 'airports' under the terms of §38 of the air traffic registration code and §12 of the German air traffic law by the responsible state air traffic authorities". This legistlation includes commercial / general aviation airports and 'special airports' like certain aircraft factory facilities. Currently there are only three of the latter.
Not even the Airbus site in Finkenwerder is classified as an airport, even though its runway is long enough for major airliners. Instead, it has the status of Sonderlandeplatz, or special airfield. This is apparently the word for mostly smaller fields, as long as there's more than gliding and it has an ICAO code.
We might consider including this distinction in the introduction in order to give it some structure while including more places (and at any rate I think it would make more sense to mention this nomenclature rather than the current geography 101, see below ;-) --Cancun771 (talk) 17:17, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is a list of German airports. Does this article really need an introduction with all that geography and federal details?--Cancun771 (talk) 16:55, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
