The belief that the noon bell has something to do with Nándorfehérvár is very widespread in Hungary; however, according to http://epa.oszk.hu/01000/01014/00026/pdf/115.pdf this is a myth (alas, in Hungarian only; some sources are cited too). I'm not a historian, but I'd be interested in knowing the truth of the matter.

Why do churches really ring their bells at noon? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.56.53.118 (talkcontribs) 13:56, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia article is correct. The reference is an article (or opinion), from a literary journal, and it is ironic and sarcastic. So maybe even not the author take it seriously. Otherwise there isn't a why, and the source is not related to history. 94.21.253.47 (talk) 05:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be the answer. I have no time now to rewrite the article, though – hopefully later... KissL 14:34, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
