Language appearing on currency[edit]

Did the Vietnamese Democratic Republic officially recognize language rights for the Thai and Chinese minorities? Because why do those languages appear on the Vietnamese currency in 1945? Le Anh-Huy (talk) 08:48, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Traditionally, from the French Indochina times, money denominations were written in Vietnamese, Chinese, Khmer and Lao. I've never heard about Thai language on Vietnamese currency... Pyvanet (talk) 16:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks, you two, for the clarification. However, I assumed it was Thai because this was the currency of the DRV ('45-'76), and thought that the writing was from the Thai/Tai/Tay minorities in the northwest. Le Anh-Huy 15:33, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This language appears on Vietnamese currency from 40's to early 50's, but not till 76 as you say. The latest one is probably Tra Vinh local issue - that is next to Cambodian border. Pyvanet 20:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
