Moving this dab page[edit]

Having just fixed over 100 links to this page during disambiguation link repair and found that only 3 needed to redirect to any page other than Relic, I propose that the disambiguation list be moved to Relics (disambiguation) and that links to Relics should redirect to Relic. Any objections? ~ VeledanTalk 16:44, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Relic is not just a religious word[edit]

I was just checking the spelling of relic for an error I've found and was surprised to see that relic is claimed as only having religious connotations. Even our friends at wikitionary have a different opinion: [1], which is shared by Merriam Webster and The Free Dictionary. What have I missed that means the en.wp regards relics as only having religious significance? Bigger digger (talk) 22:44, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have missed that wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It would be difficult (impossible?) to create encyclopedic articles for the first two definitions that mention the word "relic":
  1. "That which remains; that which is left after loss or decay; a remaining portion"
  2. "Something old kept for sentimental reasons"
The wikipedia article at relic is about the religious context, which seems appropriate for an encyclopedia. Keep in mind that disambiguation pages are for navigation on wikipedia, not information. Hoof Hearted (talk) 19:35, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
