Character in Doctor Who based on him?[edit]

I recall in the early 1970s there being a Doctor Who series that had a "General Scobie" (the pronunciation as in Gobi sticks in my memory but I can't recall it being spelt) as a villain character. From how I recall the plot, the General, as a celebrity, had a figure at a waxworks in uniform that roused the Doctor's suspicion early on when it was seen to have a wrist watch on ('who would go to the trouble of putting a wrist watch on a dummy?' is how I recall the Doctor's question). The 'General' comes to life commanding an uprising army of robots disguised as waxworks and tailor mannequins but is eventually killed when he is literally unmasked as a robot in the final episode. The Scobie of the article had been dead a few years (1969), making me wonder if the writer conveniently used his name and personality for the story, avoiding better known figures like Montgomery who were still alive and could have objected to being portrayed. Both the waxwork and the actor who played the General seemed made up in near resemblance of the real life Scobie (dark hair and moustache I recall). If someone could investigate and find published evidence of a link, it might make a 'Cultural Reference' detail in this article.Cloptonson (talk) 20:15, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
