Persian vs. Iranian

Hi! I'm doing a copyedit of this article as a member of the League of Copyeditors. I noticed that throughout the "modern" sections of the article, people are referred to seemingly interchangeably as Persian and Iranian. My understanding was that Persian is the ancient description of the country and people, while Iranian should be used to refer to modern country and its citizens. Is this the case? What is the date that Iran became a modern state (i.e., what is the "cutoff" date for calling someone Persian, if any?) Galena11 19:22, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Confusion

I'm just wondering, which revolution does this pertain to? "Many Nobel laureates and influential scientists as Bruce Alberts, F. Sherwood Rowland, Kurt Wuthrich, Stephen Hawkings, and Pierre-Gilles de Genne visited Iran after the revolution. Some Universities also hosted American and European scientists as guest lecturers during last decades." Just wondering, because I would like to write something more specific. Thanks!! The part on the Father of Optics appears to be copied verbatim from its cited link, which has a copyright notice on the bottom. (See especially the reference to the "optical diagram", which is referred to in this Wiki article but doesn't appear here; it appears only on the linked page.) Unclear sections

I've copy-edited up to the break for the "Letters" image. The sentence that starts with "High filed" is unclear to me. I don't know the meaning of "high filed" and don't know anything about this subject overall. Please clarify.

Also, the reference to being among the "top 146 countries in the world" doesn't seem very meaningful. There are 200 or so countries, depending on who's counting, so being in the top 146 out of 200 seems not a substantial claim.

Would suggest more references -- there are none in the pre-Islam section. In addition, statements of greatness or other claims of quality should be referenced to expert opinions; otherwise, they violate WP:PEACOCK. I changed a few and hope you can provide support for others. Breaking off on the copy-edit now. Very interesting article -- hope you can get it to top quality. Copyright issue with the section Science_and_technology_in_Iran#Science_in_Persia?

At the top of this page, it is mentioned that the original version of the "Science in Persia" section comes from The Circle of Ancient Iranian Studies and that "[u]nlimited distribution is permitted without permission" by them. Unfortunately, their copyright notice (or the current version at least) only allows redistribution of unmodified and fully attributed copies, which obviously isn't true here. I tried to add an attribution (to the page "CAIS/Science/iran_sience.htm" on their website) as a first step, but it turns out that their site is blacklisted by Wikipedia so I couldn't even do that. The content taken from that source has been edited repeatedly since being first included, but a lot of it remains intact in this article. –Syncategoremata (talk) 14:08, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

You are correct. The initial article was created in January 2006 as an entire copy-paste of IRAN THE CRADLE OF SCIENCE from The Circle of Ancient Iranian Studies website. At that time (as is the case now), the archives at web.archive.org show the website copyright page was not compatible with Wikipedia. Subsequent alterations of the initial copyright violation text are considered derivative works and are also copyright violations. Unfortunately, this means it has been necessary to completely remove the initial text and its derivatives. Those sections will need to be rewritten. Additionally, the entire section on Biology was a copypaste from this page. It has been deleted and requires rewriting from scratch. — CactusWriter | ^needles 18:05, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't some mention about FARS new agency's alteration of photos be mentioned in this article?→ Specifically regarding the Qaher-313 fighter plane, the infamous missile test that became a meme, and the alteration of the clothing of the First Lady of the United States?→ I feel that this article is biased in not mentioning these duplicities about the technology of Iran. How is this 'FARS news agency's' photoshopping of significant relevance to the history of science and technology in Iran, meme or otherwise? I think it would simply serve to ridicule Iran's otherwise notable achievements in the area and it would be informative to anyone seeing greater knowledge of Iranian civilization. Question

Article states: "...Iran's first astronaut will be sent into space on board an Iranian shuttle by 2019."

Did this happen? Google doesn't turn up anything.

In spite of the fact that SCOPUS is available and there is no such thing as "Science Production" there, you've ranked Iran according to that and cited PRESSTV as resource! Seriously? PRESSTV is nothing but a not-so-valid press agency in Iran.
