Copyright violations[edit]

I deleted the sections associated with these notes because they were pasted in wholesale and appear to be copyright violations.

(This article is a condensed version of one written by Rachel Murray Celmer in a Centennial book entitled A PATCHWORK SAMPLER edited by Julie Wolfe, 1989.)

and

(From an article written by George Curtis in A PATCHWORK SAMPLER edited by Julie Wolfe; additional historical notes from an article in the 1936 edition of THE MIDDLEBURY INDEPENDENT.)

Please do not add copyrighted material. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia where all the material must be free for others to use. It is okay to summarize or (completely) rewrite such material, provided you have multiple sources, but in such cases, no special attribution is needed (it has become your own work).

However, if this material was completely rewritten and summarized from multiple sources, please feel free to-add it (with a note to that effect here) and with the sources noted at the bottom of the article in a separate "References" section. --Tysto 20:11, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Points of interest[edit]

Does this article really need to list nearly 50 "points of interest"? That's 1 point of interest for every 11 members of the community. --Tysto 20:11, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Copyright Violations[edit]

Although it may indeed "appear" to you that the articles you deleted are copyright violations, they in fact are not. Julie Wolfe lives across the street from me, in Shipshewana, and gave her full permission to use the text, with or without credit to her. I included the history for the benefit of local students researching their home town, and included the credit to Julie out of courtesy. She taught locally here for decades, and continues to contribute in whatever way she can. However, I won't squabble with you on the point. By the way, nice pictures on your profile Tysto. Saw many of them at Betterphoto.com too.

Weirdness in the demographics[edit]

"A popular and extremely good looking group of juvenile delinquents, known as Shipshe Rattz to the local police force, terrorized the town between the years of 1998 and 2003 and made up roughly 2.28% (U.S. Census) of the populace."

Isn't this a potential NPOV violation? After all, "extremely good looking" is something of a value judgment. Also, I find it strange that a "popular and extremely good looking group" would terrorize anyone. Terrorizing people is a good way to get unpopular very quickly.

Google finds one mention of the "Shipshe Rattz", and it's the one in this article. Are there any newspaper or book sources?

Livin Lite rv[edit]

Does somebody have something against Livin Lite RV? It is based there isn't it?

It keeps getting deleted.

Isn't KZ there too?--Utahredrock (talk) 03:40, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You need to provide references to show the content you wish to add is relevant to the subject of this article. Per pillar policy, Wikipedia is not a directory. Do you want to create a section, referenced to reliable secondary sources, on the economy in this town? Perhaps there you could list this company along with the other major employers in the community. John from Idegon (talk) 04:02, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced and promotional sounding content[edit]

I just removed lots of unsourced promotional sounding content from the article. It might be acceptable to re-add some of this, but external links to the websites of non-Wikipedia notable events or companies should not be embedded into the article body per WP:CS#Avoid embedded links and WP:EL#cite_note-7. The article is not intended to be a travel guide or PR guide for the town, so if someone's going to add content like "Shipshewana is perhaps most famous for its Miscellaneous and Antique Auction, held every Wednesday throughout the year" then a citation to a reliable source is needed for verification purposes and the content should be presented in a more encyclopedic manner and not a blurb-like fashion. Same for all of the festivals that were listed as annual cultural events. Lots of municipalities have festivals but whether they are worth encyclopedically relevant per WP:NOTEVERYTHING is a different matter. Same goes for parks and recreation facilities; lots of municipalities have park systems, soccer fields, baseball/softball diamonds, etc.

Promotional speak such as "Welcoming over 1 million visitors per year to the various attractions. Shipshewana is also a large producer of handcrafted Amish furniture. Amish furniture is noted for its durability, solid wood construction and simple elegance." might be fine for the town's website, but it's not really OK for a Wikipedia article written about the town. If, however, citations can be provided in support of the town being a "large producer of Amish furniture" then a more neutrally word statement perhaps supported by actual numbers/percentages, etc. probably can be re-added to the section. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:43, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
