Does anyone else agree that the Panga - with a distinctive name and characteristics - deserves a page of its own - with a link from skiff of course? Motmit (talk) 19:19, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would be in favor of a pangas page that is separate from skiffs. Motmit why don't you get it going? Mziebell (talk) 01:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High performance?nope[edit]

Hemmingway told us that his Old Man used a skiff. I guess it was not "high performance" in the modern sense. So maybe skiff could also be simply a small fisherman's boat with a sail? I imagine something like this: http://www.clcboats.com/images/boats/jimmy-2.jpg In other words: does it have to be "high performance"? Huck's father, Pap, travels on the Mississipi on a skiff.24.7.28.186 (talk) 04:29, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Layout with National Divisions[edit]

Am not very convinced this is appropriate... Skiff as rowing boat in the Thames skiff sense is not an exclusively British usage and skiff in the sense of boats derived from the overcanvassed Sydney hardbour sailing boats is most definitely an International usage. I doubt there is an english speaking country in the world where the word isn't used in at last two of the listed senses... 91.125.130.80 (talk) 12:57, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are right - the article has become top heavy with information on the sailing boat version and this should perhaps be separated into a separate article as the Panga was. Motmit (talk) 14:33, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skiff as Combatant Vessel[edit]

Is there any value in this section? I dn think it adds anything to anyone's understanding of the topic. 212.137.33.124 (talk) 12:43, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it reminds us that perhaps one the main characteristic shared by all skiffs is the flat angled bow that allows easy beaching on a sloped shore. Motmit (talk) 16:57, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not so Motmit: the term when used for racing sailcraft usually implies a straight and vertical bow (note Moth class usage for example)212.159.44.170 (talk) 23:19, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the sailing skiff deserves its own article as it has little in common with the more general use. Motmit (talk) 10:40, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
