New stratigraphy[edit]

This article is heavily impacted by the work of Krabbendam and co-workers in 2022. Taking this into account will require a major rewrite, which I may get around to at some point. 20:32, 14 May 2024 (UTC) Mikenorton (talk) 20:32, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The scope of this article will change as the Stoer Group is removed to its own page - despite the lithological similarities between the Stoer and Torridon Groups they are almost certainly unrelated sequences separated by an unconformity that represents a substantial time gap ~150 million years caused by major tectonic event (the Grenville Orogeny). The Sleat Group will also need its own page, with that being summarised on the Wester Ross Supergroup page. Mikenorton (talk) 17:08, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My plan is to leave this article unchanged for now, waiting until all the new articles are more or less complete. This will inevitably lead to some duplication and inconsistency but I think that this approach is preferable to trying to change them all at once, which might lead to even more confusion (for me if nobody else).
