Duxes[edit]

Given that none of them are notable people, why should that section remain? WP:WPSCHOOLS doesn't have a recommendation one way or the other. The section is sourced, but my concern is whether there's lasting notability in the achievements. —C.Fred (talk) 03:05, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. I have deleted the section. Being a Dux doesn't make you notable. If these students go on to bigger and better things that make them notable then they should be mentioned. Time will fix this problem. Gillyweed (talk) 22:45, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've also asked at the project level: see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Education in Australia#Lists of duxes in articles?C.Fred (talk) 22:43, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that the list of duxes is not appropriate, for reasons of both non-notability and privacy of the individuals (who typically would be children, ie under 18). Mitch Ames (talk) 12:14, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I note that MrLazarus when adding back in the list of duxes claims that I have not answered his questions and that I should ignore the names and focus on the numbers. My reply is simply that the MySchools website has all the data and this is the best place to get information on the quality of the school. I couldn't help noting that according to the Naplan data this school is below average on nearly all Naplan measures (using Year 9 data and comparing with all schools) and thus I can only suggest that focussing on school duxes is an attempt to get away from the Naplan results. So perhaps MrLazarus is trying to push his own POV as well. Gillyweed (talk) 02:13, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise if I have caused frustration. I have made changes which I hope we can discuss to produce a version which is acceptable to all and helpful to those interested in the school. Drawing on Gillyweed's suggestion that emphasising the duxes was an attempt to distract from NAPLAN results I have included these also. Again, they are both verified objective measurements of the school's performance. Regarding Mitch Ames's question of privacy issues all of the students are over the age of 18 and indeed many of these students themselves added their own ATAR achievements when the information was originally added. C.Fred I understand that the student's themselves aren't 'notable' and if you think it necessary I suppose the student's names can be removed leaving only the results, though I consider that to be unnecessarily limiting the information. —MrLazarus —Preceding undated comment added 05:00, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MrLazarus, I concede your point that the students are [now] over 18, but although that reduces the BLP issue slightly (in my opinion) it does not remove it. I still disagree with the inclusion of the list. Being mentioned in a local newspaper (the reference, Milton Ulladulla Times Newspaper) does not constitute notability. Specific WP:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines that the list of duxes goes against are:
WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI -
  • "School articles should only contain material of encyclopaedic interest; lists should be kept to a minimum"
  • "Any mention of living people must conform with the [BLP] policy, including the presumption in favour of privacy [emphasis added] ... lists ... about ... pupils, ... is usually inappropriate"
WP:WPSCH/AG#Alumni -
As well as deleting the list of duxes, I propose deleting the sentence "The school has regularly produced students who achieve high results in the Higher School Certificate with ATARs in the mid-to-high 90s.", unless a specific reference is provided for it, because it serves only to introduce the list of duxes and is unsupported otherwise. That sentence is also borderline promotion, contrary to WP:WPSCH/AG#N. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:39, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the list of duxes (and the introductory sentence) for the reasons described in my previous post. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:35, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Similar demographic?[edit]

MrLazarus, could you update the article to specify what a "similar demographic" is, and provide a link to a specific page that supports the assertion that "the school's NAPLAN results ... are typically above the averages achieved by schools of a similar demographic". The home page of the My School website does not give sufficient information. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:53, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
