Article renaming/redirecting[edit]

Is it appropriate to have changed this article’s title from the Robb Elementary School shooting to the “Uvalde school shooting”? It does not seem like any discussion was made about this and I can’t think of a reason why it would need to be changed.

Admittedly, a look at the references does show that news reports tend to either call the shooting either “Uvalde school shooting” or “Texas school shooting”, but official reports call it the Robb Elementary shooting. I think an argument could be made that this title makes it difficult to differentiate from other school shooting articles and may make the article less discoverable, as most school shooting articles are named after the schools. One of the exceptions is the Parkland high school shooting, however this is likely because the name Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School can be seen as not immediately recognisable, and was likely only dubbed the “Parkland shooting” in media due to the long name.

Comparatively, Robb Elementary is used somewhat commonly in article titles as well, and a similar shooting, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is also commonly referred to as the Newton school shooting, but maintains a title relating to the school’s name.

Further, calling it simply the “Uvalde school shooting” does not indicate that this incident occurred at an elementary school specifically, which can be seen as an important detail.

I think it would be more appropriate to revert this article to “Robb Elementary School shooting” and have “Uvalde school shooting” redirect to it. Macxcxz (talk) 17:46, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See the move discussion at Talk:Uvalde_school_shooting/Archive_4#Requested_move_19_January_2024, which produced a clear consensus for the current title. I didn't have strong views about this one way or the other, but generally there should be at least six months before a new discussion.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:25, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. My bad. I thought talk pages transferred with the pages so I was confused. I do still think it’s a bit weird that “elementary school” isn’t clarified, when “high school” is clarified in the example they use (Parkland), but if a consensus was reached then it’s good.
