Palestine[edit]

Region of Palestine

Improved to Good Article status by Oncenawhile (talk). Self nominated at 22:40, 13 March 2015 (UTC).

  • Article meets criteria and the hook is properly formatted. However, the hook is very general...a DYK hook should be interesting. I suggest:
  • ALT1: ...that the first clear use of the name Palestine was in the 5th century B.C. by Ancient Greek historian Herodotus. AHeneen (talk) 23:01, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks AHeneen. I am happy with your proposed ALT. Oncenawhile (talk) 23:06, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
  • @AHeneen: per Rule H2, you cannot approve your own hook. Could another reviewer take a look at this? Yoninah (talk) 19:00, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I was not aware of that. I will note, however, that the green checkmark was for the article and first proposed hook meeting DYK criteria. I then proposed the alternate hook, since the original was very bland. AHeneen (talk) 04:55, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

ALT1 is fine. It's very clearly stated "The first clear use of the term Palestine to refer to the entire area between Phoenicia and Egypt was in 5th century BC Ancient Greece, when Herodotus wrote of a 'district of Syria, called Palaistinê" in The Histories, which included the Judean mountains and the Jordan Rift Valley." and is appropriately sourced. — Maile (talk) 21:35, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
