Squibb Park Bridge

  • ... that Squibb Park Bridge, called "seemingly cursed", was demolished less than seven years after it was built? Source: "The wooden walkway that was seemingly cursed from the day it opened in 2013 was demolished recently to make way for a steel replacement." [1]
    • ALT1:... that Squibb Park Bridge was built out of "extremely rot-resistant" wood, but started to deteriorate significantly only five years after it was built, resulting in its demolition? Source: "So, after being closed for more than two and a half years, the bridge reopened in April 2017, only to close again in mid-2018 after tests pointed to problems with the wood, black locust timber, which is widely considered long-lasting and strong. In this case it wasn’t. Some pieces “had already deteriorated significantly or had high levels of moisture and were on their way to deterioration,” Mr. Landau said.[2] "Black locust is extremely rot-resistant, durable and sustainable, Zoli says."[3]

  • @Zxcvbnm: Hi, I'll review this one. I wrote the Brooklyn Bridge Park article, but never touched this article before your nomination, so I think it should be okay. epicgenius (talk) 16:02, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - Both are fine, but do you think we should include the locale as well? I also propose ALT2:
    • ... that New York City's $4 million Squibb Park Bridge, called "seemingly cursed", had to be demolished less than seven years after it was built? Source: "The wooden walkway that was seemingly cursed from the day it opened in 2013 was demolished recently to make way for a steel replacement." [4]
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I've moved a few refs over from the Brooklyn Bridge Park article. I don't think this should count as a major addition, though, since this was pre-existing content. Feel free to remove it if this is unnecessary, though. epicgenius (talk) 16:02, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

@Epicgenius: Thank you, the revised ALT2 seems fine to me. I prefer "was demolished" though, because it didn't have to be demolished, but it would end up costing more in maintenance after repairs were complete.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 17:15, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
  • @Zxcvbnm: OK then, how about these? epicgenius (talk) 17:20, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
    • ALT2A: ... that New York City's "seemingly cursed" $4 million Squibb Park Bridge was demolished less than seven years after it was built? Source: "The wooden walkway that was seemingly cursed from the day it opened in 2013 was demolished recently to make way for a steel replacement." [5]
    • ALT2B: ... that New York City's $4 million Squibb Park Bridge, called "seemingly cursed", was demolished less than seven years after it was built? Source: "The wooden walkway that was seemingly cursed from the day it opened in 2013 was demolished recently to make way for a steel replacement." [6]
    • ALT3: ... that New York City's $4 million Squibb Park Bridge was demolished less than seven years after it was built, because the repairs would have cost more than a new bridge? Source: "The wooden walkway that was seemingly cursed from the day it opened in 2013 was demolished recently to make way for a steel replacement." [7]
  • @Epicgenius: ALT2A and ALT2B are both fine to me, those are the ones I prefer. It gives it a bit more interest.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 17:33, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
  • All right then, ALT2A/B are ready to go. epicgenius (talk) 22:07, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
