Smryna and Bodrum

Looked back at my edits to Smyrna. There was one which added extra words to a sentence. Wikipedia prefers "Strunk and White" as a guide. Keep sentences simple. An editor the other day qualified the headmistress of a school as "current." I deleted it. She is headmistress. No extra words are needed.

Another (in Smryna) had linked two archaeologists who were WP:NN. It is not really allowable to place nn "authorities" in the text, but I was pretty sure someone could come up with a reference. So I tagged it. But it would have been better to say "Smyrna had two pylons in its centre" or whatever, rather than quote two nn archaeologists by name has having found them. What is a good reference? I don't know not being a specialist in Smyrna. Someone may have a book someplace. For something this refined, a web site may be untrustworthy. The article still has to be readable and accurate for the general public. And follow Wikipedia standards, which sometimes get lost when specialists generate an article. In the worst cases, readers are perhaps mystified by what they encounter and abandon the article.

I don't see the problem with Bodrum particularly. My main problem with that article (and other Turkish Riviera cities) is the incessant addition of WP:SPAM link to the externals.

I appreciate the specialists without which there would be no articles. (I have written articles, however. Just not these). I have tried to specialize in geography and along with one or two other overlapping editors, cover a number of sites and have a pretty good feel for what should and should not go into a place article. I watch a total of about 1400 articles. most of which are geographic. When I am wrong, one of the other generalists usually points this out! Having said that, we do not overlap on these two sites.

If you disagree with a particular edit I will be willing to disucss it. But the nature of my edits are similar to other editors, though some of my edit summaries and discussion may not!

If you do not feel that there should be generalists, only specialists, you could make your case on the Village Pump perhaps. Student7 (talk) 13:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Dopp, Wisconsin-

One of the editors at WP-Wisconsin is doing unincorporated communities in Portage County, Wisconsin. One of the projected articles is the unincorporated community of Dopp, Wisconsin where Katharine Elizabeth Dopp came from. I will keep an eye out for it.Thanks-RFD (talk) 21:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Homer Dopp

I am starting articles about members of the Wisconsin State Legislature. I came across Homer Dopp.He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for one term in 1923.[1] It sounds like he is from the Dopp Family. Hi! If you type in Wisconsin Blue Book on Wikipedia-you will get the article. There are 2 external links about the Blue Book-one is from the Wisconsin State Legislature the most recent Blue Books the other is from UW system and Wisconsin Historical Society. That has all the previous Blue Books. That is the site you need In the 1923 Blue Book on pg 639 is a short bio on Homer Dopp-Wisconsin Assemply-he was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He taught school.
