Alexander Selkirk (1676 – 13 December 1721), also known as Alexander Selcraig, was a Scottish sailor. He became famous because he lived alone for more than four years on a far-away island in the South Pacific. His unusual story probably influenced Daniel Defoe to write the book Robinson Crusoe.
