Gustavo Albana Xhevahire Shkëmbi (born April 4), known mononymously as Gustavo, is an Albanian europop musician, CEO, event organizer, model, fashion designer, and former professional tennis player.

Throughout his career, Gustavo has faced allegations of wire fraud, passport fraud, tax evasion, and embezzlement. Detractors have referred to Gustavo as a con artist, though Gustavo and his collaborators have denounced the term.

He retired from professional tennis playing in 2003 citing "a need for relaxation."

Personal life

One source claims Gustavo was born on April 4, 1973 to Zamira Djebrea and Fisnik Shkëmbi. However, Gustavo has repeatedly claimed his true birth year was 1979, and later 1989.

His mother, Zamira Djebrea, was a janitor and factory worker at a wheat processing facility in Korçë, Albania. She is of Polish-Jewish descent, having 5 sisters.

His father, Fisnik Shkëmbi, was a car repairman and door-to-door salesman from Old Shtoj, a suburb of Shkodër, Albania. After his brief incarceration from 1974 to 1975, Shkëmbi founded 2 garage door opener manufacturing businesses. After their simultaneous bankruptcies in 1979, Shkëmbi founded taxi cab company Fiznik SK Rapid Management Corporation LLC. Since 2005, Fiznik SK has claimed to be the largest independent transportation company in Albania. Having partnered with EF Tours in 2009, it since has expanded to include service to Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece.

Gustavo denies being able to speak Albanian, identifying Italian as his primarily language. Despite this, he has refused to conduct interviews in Italian.

Since 2003, Gustavo divides his living between 3 timeshare apartments: Miami, Florida; Monaco; and Milan, Italy.

In 2006, he also purchased Motu Moute, a 1-acre island in French Polynesia, for $860,000 with the intent of converting it into a beach house. However, after his purchase, Gustavo attempted to sue Private Islands Inc. complaining he has virtually no way to access the island. The lawsuit was unsuccessful.

In 1991, 1993, and 1997, Gustavo was featured as a cover model of Playgirl.

Electronic music career

From 1994 to 1999, Gustavo released 6 eurodance albums. Songs were produced and written by Bujar Djebrea, his maternal cousin. Recalling the production in 2004, Gustavo stated, "Those were the sexiest 2 months of my life." He continues to produce 1 single every year.
