KindyNews is a community newspaper in 1, Australia, created in November 2011 for parents of children aged seven and under. It contains articles, information and community support to kindergartens, childcare centres and playgroups in Brisbane. The paper's publisher is Karen Jackman, a South African–born journalist who has previously run a an expatriate newspaper, the SA Independent[1] from 1999 to 2003 in Perth, Western Australia. KindyNews launched as a simple, single A3 sheet black-and-white print community publication which was distributed to kindergartens and child care centres in the western suburbs of Brisbane. The format changed to a full colour A3 news sheet, supported by a news website.

KindyNews was created in response to the Government [of Queensland]'s and also the [Federal Government]'s push in recent years to encourage more young children to attend 2[2][3] as well as a worldwide trend towards engaging young children in more socialized educational settings[4]. In an article run by the government-funded Playgroup Queensland’s Play News magazine, local writer and advocate for child pool safety, Sue Ward, noted that the KindyNews had given the community the opportunity to raise awareness of water safety and the importance of learning to swim in particular[5].
