Politics is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations between individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status; it involves the deployment of many methods, including promoting one's own views among the people, negotiating with other subjects, making laws, and exercising force among others. Government refers to the organization, machinery, or agency through which a political unit exercises authority and performs functions, usually classified according to the power of distribution within it; and also the complex of political institutions, laws, and customs through which such unit carries out its functions. The branch of social science that studies and analyzes these two and any relevant institutions and processes is referred to as political science.
