Image:Tulane shield web.jpg and the "badjpg" template

We do not have permission to use a higher quality version of the Tulane Shield on Wikipedia. A fair use claim is made for using the logo in the Tulane University article and specific permission was sought and received for using it in the Userbox Template:User Tulane. Neither the doctrine of fair use, nor the specific permissions granted by the Office of University Communications allow a high-resolution version to be uploaded to Wikipedia. --Dystopos 20:41, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Different signatures (?)

I haven't been able to help you in return for the help you gave me on the little issue with a picture of AnnaSophia Robb (nor do I believe will I be in a position where I can help you...), but considering you have helped me in the past, I figured I would come to you—come right to the point—and ask you to help me figure out how to change my signature (is that what it is called? Tell me please if it's called something else) to something along the lines of:

CliffHarris <-T|C->

(By the way, the C would be my contributions.) Once again, if you could help me, it would be nice. CliffHarris 03:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Wrong (format?)

Hi there! I noticed that you listed some of my Battle of Grunwald banners on your User:Bkell/List of images in the wrong format. What is it that you find wrong with them? Halibutt 14:41, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Of course, I know all of that. And that's precisely why I'm uploading mostly .png nowadays. However, you tagged the images eventhough they are meant to be shown in exactly one place - and no bigger than 30px. Images of that size that are otherwise useless outside of the table at said article are definitely not worth the effort of their conversion. The result would be exactly the same at 30px of width and the difference in size would be negligible. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Halibutt 01:18, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Ic-map.png

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ic-map.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 03:22, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

fair use images not allowed on user pages

Sorry, but per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, fair use images are not allowed on user pages. Please remove those which are not under a free license from User:Bkell/Images. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 23:07, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:DR_Congo_CoA_svg_250_palette_reduced.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days.

Your name came up with regard to the Carolyn Wood image...

A image of Captain Carolyn Wood was uploaded in November. It was controversial. At first they didn't put a liscence tag on it. I told them I recognized the image from an excellent CBC documentary broadcast on November 16th. I asked them if their image was a screenshot from that documentary. Eventually someone (not me) placed a screenshot tag on the image.

You entered the picture on December 31st, when you removed the screenshot tag from the image, and added some other tag that lead to its removal a four days later.

I know that advising the user who uploaded the image of the concern about the image is part of what an editor policing image liscencing is supposed to do. I see you did that part. But, weren't you supposed to track down the articles where the image was used, and put a tag in the caption(s) where the image was used, to give a heads-up to those who had the article on their watchlist? I put half a dozen unsourced tags on some images I had concerns about, and I hunted up the tag to put in the captions where those images were used. Am I wrong to assume there is a corresponding tag for whatever tag you put on the image?

I contacted the administrator who followed up on your tag, and deleted the image. Am I correct that they were not under an obligation to look to see if there was an outstanding controversy over the article's deletion? Am I correct that they were not under an obligation to check to see whether you had placed the warning tags in the captions?

The administrator agreed that, from my description, it sounded to them as if the image had qualified for a {tv-screenshot}. They suggested I just upload it again. Since I am not the original uploader I can't do this. Frankly I am still highly annoyed over this. -- Geo Swan 12:48, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Coat of arms of Hungary.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Coat of arms of Hungary.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Tagging images with {{cv-unsure}}

Hi Bkell. You don't need to tag images with {{cv-unsure}}. Images without source information should be tagged with {{subst:nsd}}, since all images require a source. ~MDD4696 01:42, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. The reason I used {{cv-unsure}} instead of {{subst:nsd}} is that the images had been tagged with {{PD-self}}, which says that the image is the uploader's own work, released into the public domain. I thought this counted as a claim of a source. But since I was able to find the actual sources for about half of that uploader's images, which showed that they were copyright violations, I doubted the claim that the uploader was the creator of the other half. So I used {{cv-unsure}}. —Bkell 12:54, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I've just been striking out dubious licensing claims (e.g. {{PD-self}}) and then adding nsd. ~MDD4696 17:32, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: SVG questions

Hi! Quite interesting and difficult questions. I have had problems with fonts and unusual characters, too, in Image:Orion-guide.svg, when I tried to include the α's and β's as text. It didn't quite work, so I ended up rendering them as curves, as you can see in the file history. I've tried to find a font listing as well, but to no avail. Thus I guess the support for different fonts is minimal. (Are you using the correct encoding, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> in the beginning? I just noticed there's such a tag, and though it might be of help.) As for multilingual SVG's – they would be a great thing to have. I don't know how they could be implemented in Wikipedia, though. The style tag is a good idea, but can't be modified when included in different articles. –Mysid(t) 06:54, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

U.S. places

Thanks for your constructive comments. On the first point, square kilometre was a redirect until earlier today, when I recreated it for the second time! So it's a considered decision to go for km², but admittedly a little arbitrary. On your second point, this is perhaps the most complicated part of the process, because the original wording of the poverty section was manifestly wrong, therefore a lot of manual changes occurred. I do take your point, and am not completely happy with any solution I've seen for wording this part, but I will review what I do in light of your comments. Because the changes are now fairly complex, (and I've done about 3,500 articles already) I may also finish the exercise as is, or very close, and come back with improved wording as a third pass. (The first pass was putting the census results in the past tense.) Rich Farmbrough 21:16 25 May 2006 (UTC).

P.S. I've now incorporated your suggestions for the poverty sentence. Thanks again. Rich Farmbrough 11:48 26 May 2006 (UTC).

(Granted, if it turns out that it was gotten from a website as a GIF, there's not much that can be done about it.) Hi Bkell...If u really want to help then u shud know that the image is from Wikipedia itself....I dont know why u dint find the source of it in Wikipedia....u can check similar "map of india image" on other pages of indian cities such as Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nashik etc. these r all cities in Maharashtra....I have just taken a screenshot of original image from Wikipedia and modifies the image in photoshop, to create a new image called as Akola....NOW FROM WHERE SHUD I GIVE ITS LINK, SINCE THE ORIGINAL IMAGE IS FROM WIKIPEDIA....also I have written the same think in source that "Source: I made the file myself. I used the image of India from Wikipedia and then modified the image to new file to denote Akola. The file-image was not already present on Wikipedia" I will say DO NOT delete the image...and if u want to do so, first check other wikipedia pages that I told...

Fine, go on, delete Image:Koon.jpg. I have created another one, called Image:Plo_Koon_Screenshot.jpg. You can go check it to see I put the proper copyright status. I will write a fair use rationale for it. Weirdy 07:18, 8 June 2006 (UTC). Hello

"I believe that Wikipedia should not allow fair-use images" That is YOUR opinion at not that of Wikipedia policy.

"This image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy)."

"Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page." Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 01:15, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Go right ahead and delete if that is your purpose in life -- This it is a PUBLICITY / PR IMAGE from Rutgers, which is allowed per Wikipedia's Copyright policy (fair usage). I see that you are trying to enforce your beliefs on the Wiki community (and not policy). This was also originally with this image on upload (tampering? vandal?)

This web article by Larry Sanger, one of the Wikipedia co-founders, Wikipedia credibility & management problems-- summarizes the current problems (such as your actions) very well. Respectable institutions are now informing their students and discouraging Wikipedia as a source material. g. beat

Why did you delete these pictures?

Image:MS C++ v6 intro.PNGImage:MS C++ v6 intro error screen.PNG You deleted the pictures. Why? ...IMHO (Talk) 01:14, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. When I took a quick glance at the history your user name was the last one I saw for an edit of the section and so I thought it was you. i thought they were deleted because there is no record of them being uploade in my contribution file. That old Ki-Adi-Mundi image that I uploaded; could you please delete it?> I have uploaded another one. I think that image was called Image:mastermundi.jpg. The other one I uploaded will too have a fair use rationale.

Mouse gestures

I saw your note on the help desk about a mouse gestures extention. I'd never heard of any such thing, but it sounds really neat - I did a search for it, and found about 5 different FF extentions that seem to do such a thing. I got the one just called "Mouse Gestures" (1.5), which looks like it'd be useful once I figure it out. Anyway, I was just wondering, which is the one you use? -Goldom (t) (Review) 13:48, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Mouse gestures... Does that mean you can draw a selection rectangle around your links and open everything you selected? Sounds like the extension I need. What is the extension you use called? - Mgm|(talk) 14:27, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Removal of fair use image from user page

Article Space

Hi Bkell, i'd like to know how to move a userpage to an article space. From User:Clockworkrobot. Please see my Usertalk:Clockworkrobot

TNZS on user page

Yep, that's fine that you've removed that image from my gallery page.

At first read, i thought you'd taken it from the actual article (in which it is being used fairly). If you're on a spree, you may want to more explicitly state that it is User pages that don't allow fair use, and that you're only removing from User pages. - Tristanb 04:01, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Rosette

The picture is from the album cover that's why I licensed it that way. I don't see what the problem is. Thankyoubaby 04:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Delete images

Yes, please delete all orphaned images you mention on my talk page. They were used on templates, but given that these templates can be built differently (with no images) I think there is no use to have them. I was going to ask for their deletion, but I forgot. Kind regards, Luis María Benítez 13:30, 30 June 2006 (UTC).

Clockworkrobot user page

Hi, Clockworkrobot again, You're right, I am Clockwork Robot as well. However I changed to Clockworkrobot after I sadly lost my password. However I managed to still keep the page by copying it but obviously updating it for later episodes.

The page is on the aliens and enemies from the 2006 series of Doctor Who. I can put on the 2005 series monsters as well. Doctor Who was revived in 2005 and now, in 2006, is on New Series 2 which the user page is based around.

Also I have done an article like this but was deleted. However I will try. One more point Bkell; I was thinking of an article name. So follow this link below to the page: Doctor Who 2006 Monsters NOTE: This page has not been created yet.

When completed please tell me what you think and if I need to change anything.

Your friend, User:Clockworkrobot
