April music[edit]

story · music · places

I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (look up places)? - I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:44, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What statue? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:42, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
didn't I say "look up places"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:55, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but no pictures came out visibly when I clicked it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:57, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another user said they don't show, - perhaps I should build smaller groups. File:Hildegard von Bingen by Karlheinz Oswald, Eibingen, 1.jpg, and 2 and 3. - I came to ask if you could translate a bit more for Joe Viera, because I have already 3 RD articles open. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:06, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll look soon, I've seen a lot from Internationale Jazzwoche Burghausen ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:09, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. - The statue is of Hildegard of Bingen, and as it happens, her Physica is on the Main page today, and Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:55, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ich habe einige Inhalte zu Viera hinzugefügt. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Danke! - Will check if enough for RD. I mentioned 3, 2 of those are on the Main page right now, but a 4th was added, - no end. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:29, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hard to keep up with all the deaths! I'll see if I find a bit more over the next day or two. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:32, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and I always think: too bad they couldn't see their article in good shape while alive. Seiji Ozawa was such a mess, for example. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:35, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at Viera a bit, - we may manage. The festival might be a bit more detailed, no? - plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We managed! - My story today is about a piece composed for the Second Sunday after Easter 300 years ago, and I just returned from a (long) opera about the same age, with soprano Pretty Yende --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:04, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! I will expand the festival article soon! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:00, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great! - relief: the last of six RD articles in one week is now on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly the legendary Dickey Betts is also one of them. RIP.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:55, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
RIP. Your chance to reference the article ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:06, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I transwikied the festival article, badly needs sourcing! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:07, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, - will look when I have time. The other looks more urgent to have more refs now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:13, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps Ritchie333 can look into it? Sourcing and improving Dickey Betts.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:15, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps - made one edit in April --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Hope he's OK... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:38, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For Betts, just one para misses a citation, under Early ... - fine work! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:11, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an obit, - didn't check if it's already used or adding things, - I am busy with the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

today a sad task turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:18, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Verhoeven, another one matching your expertise more than mine. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:23, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sad. Fantastic director, and leaves behind his lovely wife, Senta was one of the most stunning looking actresses in the 60s and 70s! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:01, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. - Today you can look at the last three stories or "music" on my talk: the same topics, Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Samuel Kummer and (pictured) one row of 8 double basses and another of 5 bassists ;) - Kummer left behind his lovely wife at age 56. The church that dismissed him devoted a memorial YouTube, named Sortie of all titles, - yes I know it just means postlude. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can't believe it's May already! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:38, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... and my story is about an article you wrote - proper flowers later, going out --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:38, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I hate, you!![edit]

Seems vandals can't even get the punctuation right these days. "Trolls of today"... etc, etc. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:57, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know! He's probably a native Spanish speaker. I'm guessing Javier Milei pissed him off! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:04, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May music[edit]

story · music · places

Some pics around the concert with the basses ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nice. I wonder if there is enough to write an article on Paco De Lucia's statue in Algeciras. love it!Dr. Blofeld 11:49, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just try it! - Yesterday I expanded (with help) Peter Demetz from 2 sentences, and on ITNN someone wants more detail about his tenure as professor, sigh. It would need a source, and I didn't happen to meet one, and am pleasantly musically busy this weekend. Thus, he'll end up among the RD not mentioned while it's still "recent". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:25, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've just been playing flamenco and classical guitar for an hour, seeing the statue triggered my Pacoisms! :-) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:26, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Happy birthday! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gracias! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:13, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... and with Audrey Hepburn, who is on the Main page ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On the bicentenary of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, I remember our recent uplifting choral concert in pictures, on my user page and in my concerts (leading to the two at the church's article). The closest was in the paper. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today is the Feast of the Ascension for which Bach composed his oratorio, - perhaps watch a bit how the closing movement was performed in Bach's church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very nice, listened to it all! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:47, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - Magdalena Hinterdobler is on the Main page today, together with an opera that reviewers deemed not interesting and too obscure for our general readers. The soprano thought differently, - listen and see. - Also on the Main page: a TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:15, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Practicing countermotion diminished arpeggios at the moment. Say it's E minor. E at the top E C# Bb G, E or G diminished. The Es in each hand start 2 octaves apart, the left ascending and right descending.
L: E, G, C#, E, R: E, C# Bb G
L: Eb, Gb, C, Eb, R: Eb, C, A, Gb
move down chromatically further to D, C# and finally C. C diminished functions as a B7 flat 9 chord and resolves back to E minor. Practice in all twelve keys! If it's B7 and functioning as a flat 9th diminished chord you can do triads ascending over bass notes in minor thirds, like A D F# (D major) over D# , C F A (F major) over F#, Eb Ab C (Ab major) over A and F# B D# (B major) over C will work resolved back to E minor. So much sorcery with the diminished scale, that evil flat 5th :-). ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sounds complex to me ;) - did you listen and see? - today's story has a pic of a woman holding her cat, a DYK of 5 years ago - the recent pics show 2 orange tip butterflies - searching for the story I looked at 10 years ago and found this precious! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:41, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's jazz piano!! Always a staggering number of concepts to work on! Yes I saw it, reminds me that I need to get back to listening to German broadcasts and reading regularly. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:14, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yesterday's story remembered an oratorio world premiere I was in, conducted by the composer --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:59, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Birthday![edit]

Thank you The Herald!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:13, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Birthday! Neko UwUshe/her 23:19, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Neko! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:34, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'm late here, but still wanted to with you a Happy Birthday!!! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:02, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, cheers Rosie! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:22, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green GA Editathon June 2024 - Going Back in Time[edit]

Hello Dr. Blofeld:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in June 2024!

Running from June 1 to 30, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Going Back in Time! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 20 centuries by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!
