regarding Brian Kemp and Athens Academy: the BK page claims that he graduated from Athens Academy (1983). This needs to be removed. He DID NOT graduate from AA (I have a 1983 yearbook to prove--small school, only 33 members of the graduating class). I would appreciate that the BK page be corrected. As for the Athens Academy page, listing BK among the notable or distinguished alumni implies that he has an AA diploma--he does not70.186.194.28 (talk) 12:03, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Thoughts re: red links

Hi, Gab4gab. I reversed one of your red-link removals (at SWIFT) recently. You've accepted the reversal or haven't noticed it. I looked today at another red link you'd removed at Grand Street Settlement. The Google result for Rose Gruening, whom you de-red-linked there, seems pretty interesting from my quick glimpse at the Google result. Not a big deal. But red links, judiciously used, seem like one of the ‘good recruiting tools’ of the encyclopedia; and not too harmful. Maybe related (it’s what your effort brings to my mind): I went on a bit of an 'anti-naked-URL' campaign in the last year -- out and back with other editors thoughtfully calling me back. You can check it out at the now pretty moot User:Swliv/Minupg and some associated pages if you’d like. Nothing much lost; good learning experience both ways; quite different from your 'unsourced' effort in many ways; but also maybe a word to the wise for you; your choice. Cheers! River Campus Libraries

Hi;

Thank you for reviewing my draft article on the University of Rochester library system. I would like to explain a bit about the what and why of my draft. I have no interest in the University of Rochester and have never been to Rochester itself, having come no closer than driving pSure. Should we create article about Tyler Roemer? There are also several others notables from Fernley such as Ivan Taslimson, Donald Tibbals, etc. Thanks! BlackYeti (talk) 16:42, 13 April 2018 (UTC)ast on I-90. The reason I began the article was because I noticed two separate, small articles about UR libraries, Carlson Library and Rush Rhees Library, both of which are tagged as having insufficient or no references. I decided to try and create one article from the two.

I hope you will agree that my draft, while it may still require further references, is clearly superior to the two existing articles. This is not an attempt to lobby you into approving my draft, rather a request for advice.

Since yesterday, I have made some small changes to the draft, including adding two more good (I think) independent cites. I don't know how much more improvement it needs, or how much more time I can devote to that improvement. I'm semi-retired from my job as a nurse and consider myself a writer (just two self-published fiction books so far), but I have done virtually no writing while working on this article.

Should I continue? Could what I have done so far, just be merged into the University of Rochester article? Any advice?

Hello Dan D. Ric: I did look at the other articles and yes your draft would improve things. Frankly there are plenty of existing articles that don't meet notability standards. Many of those can't be fixed due to a lack of independent sources. IMO merging to the university article would avoid controversy if there is room. Added details sourced solely from the university won't create a notability problem there. Merging the existing articles to a new article outside of the 'Articles for creation' process would still run through new page patrol which applies the same standards. Unreferenced stubs

Hallo, when adding a reference to an {{Unreferenced stub}}, please don't leave it as {{stub}} if there's already a specific stub tag;, as in this edit. That puts it into the Category:Stubs so that stub-sorters look at it and have to remove the tag. Thanks. PamD 08:35, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

403 Forbidden references

While checking that references support content I sometimes get a '403 Forbidden' result. Which prevents me from verifying. For example in the Shisa article references 1,2, 5 and 7 are 403s for me. I don't know what if anything I should do to deal with this. The links are dead to me but I doubt I should tag them as dead. Suggestions? Gab4gab (talk) 13:15, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

@Gab4gab: One solution that some editors use is to check the links with the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, which archives copies of web pages at various dates. For example, based on the accessdate in 2010 for the first source at Shisa, this archived version would have been what the editor saw at the time. Note, you don't necessarily need to explicitly change the sources to the archived versions, but there is a bot that is performing that task en masse, so don't be surprised if you find some sources that are already using this tool! --MarkTraceur (talk) 14:07, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Gab4gab,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Anything for a Quiet Life

Hi, I think that the situation concerning the notability of this book (Anything for a Quiet Life (short stories)) is plain. Michael Gilbert is a well-known, notable British novelist. By definition, therefore, any published work of his is notable enough to warrant an independent article. Most collections of short stories are not as well known as an author's novels, but that does not make them unworthy of attention. Are we to exclude *all* collections by *all* mystery writers? @Hayford Peirce:What we are to do is follow the wikipedia notability guideline for books. There I see criteria 5 which allows any books written by authors who are of exceptional historical significance to be considered notable. I agree that Gilbert is a notable author. I've seen no indication he is sufficiently historically significant to satisfy criteria 5. Which leads me to suspect the books in question is not notable in the wikipedia sense of the term. In my searches I've found nothing helpful to satisfying the other 4 criteria. Referencing additional sources that satisfy at least one of the criteria would certainly reduce the chances the article will be deleted. Gab4gab (talk) 21:25, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
On the other hand, the notability article goes on to say: "Failure to satisfy the criteria outlined in this guideline (or any other notability guideline) is not a criterion for speedy deletion. The criteria provided by this guideline are rough criteria. They are not exhaustive. Accordingly, a book may be notable, and merit an article, for reasons not particularized in this or any other notability guideline." Given that this book is part of the corpus of a notable writer, it should remain as a separate article. Hayford Peirce (talk) 16:57, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
@Hayford Peirce: It seems to me that your suggested exception justification is in conflict with criteria #5. Of course the guidelines are just guidelines. Articles either meeting or failing to meet the notability criteria can still be exceptions. Gab4gab (talk) 17:36, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Marco Antonio Solis 40 Anos

If you are looking for a chart list the album did not chart. allmusic amazon and ITunes give it a little nobility to show that the album is available. If nobility in your terms means the charting not all of his albums chart. still they should be allowed to stay. @47.202.17.249: The sources for the article are adequate to verify that it exists. Wikipedia has standards and guidelines which we try to follow as editors rather than our personal views and preferences. I suggest you look at how the article measures up to wikiSure. In the case of this article I have not yet found reliable sources that support its notability. Notability is a requirement to have a separate article for an album or any other topic. Proposed Deletion of Magnetic (song)

Please give me time to fix the Magnetic (song) page. I haven't had a lot of time to get online and haven't been able to put in the effort I usually put into pages. I've seen online reviews of the single, but, at the current moment, I don't have the time or accessibility to track them down. DailyFX

Thanks for your comments on the DailyFX article. DailyFX is its own entity and serves no purpose being redirected to FXCM as they recently sold it (see citations). Would be good if it was reverted back to the article added which has been written to be factual as opposed to advertorial. those unverifiable references

I come across references that don't lead to specific content. Sometimes it's a link to a website landing page. The reader can search around and might find related content but they can't know if they are seeing the source material the editor used. An example is Jonathan Hunt (New Zealand politician) where two references are to New Zealand websites without providing links. I can find one of them but then can't verify the content. I'm tempted to add 'failed verification' but I'm wondering if there's something that flags the issue better. Gab4gab (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Sticking {{Cite check}} at the top of the article may be more in keeping with what you want to achieve, but ultimately if the linked source doesn't verify the statement (and you can't find the correct link to replace it with) then the verification has indeed failed, and {{Failed verification}} would be apposite. That is the second time today where I have edited an article, and it (the edit) has disappeared during loading (I had added some refs.. but when I checked after your comment, nothing there, so thanks!) - I dont know if it is my very clunky browser that jumps around like a demented chook, or something in the wikimedia servers thingoes - (the trained mice that carry the piece of paper from one department to another so to speak). In the end my refs were pointless, I think I agree with the delete after all - but that is complicated by issues about the various preceding campuses that made up edith cowan uniersity when it was created - I wont bore you... cheers JarrahTree 16:36, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

double Afd listing

Using Twinkle to nominate Davao del Norte State College Laboratory School for deletion I got an invalid CSRF token. Attempting to recover from that there is now a double listing on the Afd page for today. I don't know how to clean that up. Gab4gab (talk) 15:02, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Malu Trevejo revision

Hi Gab, I reversed your edit on Malu Trevejo’s page because Malu is not “American”. In all her interviews, not articles written about her, she states she is Cuban and Spanish. Immigrating to the United States of America, does not make you an American. She is proud of her heritage being Cuban-Spanish. While reviewing recent changed I came across this User:Alhifaz Naturals/common.css which is promotional material for a product. I think it doesn't belong in Wikipedia but I see no process to remove it.

Hi again, I just saw your dummy edit with the WP:ELDEAD note. (Is it ok if we discuss via talk page instead of edit summaries?)

You are correct, ELDEAD does say;

  • "Links to dead URLs in a list of external links are of no use to Wikipedia articles"

But it also says;

  • "Such dead links should either be updated or removed. It may be worth checking to see if there is a working version of the link in an earlier version of the article"

In this case, I think it's worth seeing if these can be updated. This article is desperate for any kind of sourcing or addition information. It only has 3 refs, 2 of which belong to the same book and the 3rd is the "London Gazette" circa 1942. There has been a 'refimprove' tag on the page since 2008... that's 10 years! I feel it's worth giving a shot under these circumstances and listing under that cat may bring more attention and better chances of improvement. Benton Harbor High School

Hi, Gab. Thanks for all you're doing on verifiability on school articles. You reverted a change the other day on the above article saying another team won. Unfortunately, you didn't look closely enough at the source. Benton Harbor was the B class champ in 2018. Clarkston was the A class champ. The original editor has re-added it and I didn't want you to revert it again. The championship lists for states that have had central sanctioing organizations for a long time (thinking primarily of Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan) are often quite lengthy, and the class structures can be very convoluted. @BlackYeti: You could try writing articles on any alumni you think are notable. Keep in mind that they need to be notable per Wikipedia criteria. For athletes look at WP:NSPORTS which usually requires playing in a top level for each sport. Gab4gab (talk) 22:39, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
