Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

This was a genuine attempt at creating a company page for Gael Ltd

Decline reason:

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 17:23, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. Hi guys,

The company account that I created was recently blocked by User talk:DragonflySixtyseven for the following reason;

14:43, 9 December 2012 DragonflySixtyseven (talk | contribs) blocked GaelLtd (talk | contribs) (autoblock disabled) with an expiry time of indefinite (promotional account)

I was trying to create an account for my company, Gael Ltd, and I had been entering the information in the sandbox. But I had not finished and had not fully read up on what contents etc that I could keep from the information I was providing. I was fully prepared for the information to be edited however, and I had hoped that an administrator could have helped me or given me guidance on the account for Gael Ltd after it had went live. I thought I was using the Sandbox as a dummy run for the live account so I am confused as to how this account could have been blocked with no offer of advice or even a prior warning. Please can you advise?

Please note…this is a GENUINE attempt at creating a page for my company Gael Ltd. You can find details of our website at www.gaelquality.com so any help in having this account unblocked would be extremely helpful and would allow me to edit the page on the advice of one of your administrators.

Thanks

Comments on your unblock request[edit]

I was writing a declining response to your unblock request when BWilkins beat me to it. However, since I have spent time writing the message, and since some of its content may help to clarify the situation for you, I am posting it here for you anyway.

  • You are quite right to object to the fact that you were just blocked, with no notification, and I will write to the blocking administrator about that, which I hope was a mistake. I do sympathise with people in your situation. You came here, probably sincerely thinking that "anyone can edit Wikipedia" means "anyone can use Wikipedia to post anything they like", as many people do, and no doubt thinking that using Wikiepdia to publish information about your company was perfectly legitimate, and a good way of getting free publicity. However, I'm afraid that you have misunderstood the nature of Wikipedia, and your comments above make it clear that you have not grasped the point. Wikipedia exists for neutral third-party accounts of subjects which satisfy our notability guidelines. It does not exist for companies, people, clubs, political parties, or any other entities to post pages about themselves. You can do that on your company's own web site, or in any of the many internet sites that exist to provide publicity for businesses. My searches suggest that your business probably does not satisfy Wikipedia's notability criteria, but if it does then you can be confident that some impartial outsider will before long create an article on it, from a neutral point of view. If, on the other hand, as seems more likely, it does not satisfy those guidelines, then for you to write another article about the company would almost certainly be a waste of your time, as it would just be deleted again. Also note that as the blocking admin may have forgotten to add a block notice, I have provided an appropriate one at the top of this page. It explains much of what JamesBWatson has included above, and may help with your way forward (✉→BWilkins←✎) 17:30, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As your username is intrinsically promotional you will, if you wish to edit here, need to request an unblock for change of name. Use {{unblock-un}}. This in no way over-rides comments made on the page by the previous admins.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 17:34, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
