{{unblock|I cannot access Wikipedia because the range 70.85.0.0/16 (which belongs to ThePlanet) has been blocked. I am the administrator of the server on the range 70.85.157.234-238 and I use this server to proxy my own connections. It is not, however, an open proxy, and therefore presents no threat to Wikipedia. Thanks in advance, Henry Merriam (talk) 23:01, 15 November 2009 (UTC)}}[reply]

I have made a request to review the proxy block at WP:OP. Syrthiss (talk) 13:09, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wanted to drop you a note - the proxy project essentially said that while they agree that it is not an open proxy there is little reason for legitimate edits to be coming from these IPs. I've asked him for clarification since I don't entirely understand that distinction. Whether or not there is consensus on the project to change our policies regarding this is a discussion that could take time. As such, I've decided to grant you an IP block exemption. I'll post a note that explains it a little more, but essentially you will be able to edit through IP blocks. With only a single edit in your history, I'm granting this with an assumption of good faith on your part. Cheers, and happy editing. Syrthiss (talk) 12:42, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Syrthiss (talk) 12:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks! The reason I use my server as a proxy is to protect my end of the connection from wireless sniffers et cetera. Once proxied, my connections always originate from 70.85.157.234, so the proxy does not function to bypass IP blocks. Hope this helps your discussion.
