dear Bkissin, can you kindly help please? I have been asked to declare a conflict of interest, which I did, but am not sure how to proceed to edit the article :-( I don't want to mess it up again, and include something which goes against wikipedia's rules, hence i am asking for someone to guide me! thank you Mammu1983 (talk) 16:39, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jonathan Attard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://justice.gov.mt/en/ministry/Pages/The-Minister.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello Mammu1983. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Jonathan Attard, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Mammu1983. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Mammu1983|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Per this note you left. Whpq (talk) 13:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

to whom it may concern.. I am very sorry to read that my article has given the impression that I have an undisclosed financial stake. I never imagined that, by starting or editing a topic, would result in that matter. I confirm that I am not getting any extra payments to edit such article. Furthermore, I do not find any of the article exagerately promoting Dr Attard, and it has been indeed composed according to what other pages show. Would appreciate if you could kindly take this into consideration.

What association or relationship do you have with Attard? -- Whpq (talk) 17:50, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
we used to be school mates. As you might understand, Malta is a small island and many people know each other. The only reason I wanted to create his profile is because we know each other... Ivakso noticed that other politicians in Malta also have an article on wikipedia, so I decided to write his article, thats all Mammu1983 (talk) 19:24, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But that does not explain why you are claiming that you wrote the text on the government site. -- Whpq (talk) 01:40, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again... you're totally right about that. What I meant by thebword we is that it was written someone from his team and that it is something written in public on other sources as well... apologies about that it was a mistakenfrom my end. All I wanted was to create his profile on wikipedia, with no financial income or whatsoever. If you want I can re paraphrase the articles Mammu1983 (talk) 03:50, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
any feedback pls? Mammu1983 (talk) 11:51, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And what of you claim of "own work" and being the copyright holder of this image -> c:File:Jonathan Attard.jpg -- Whpq (talk) 12:47, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I asked jonathan to forward me a picture for wikipedia's purpose and one of his staff members sent it to me. In fact, it was the last thing i uploaded on the profile. I also informed them that it will be used for wikipedia, which can then be also used by other people, and they assured me that it was ok and that they will not contest or ask for copyright if used by other parties Mammu1983 (talk) 15:00, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have a clear conflict of interest, and need to disclose this and take action per WP:DISCLOSE. You should not edit the article directly, and instead use edit requests on the article's talk page. The image has no verified permission and would need the copyright holder to confirm permisison. -- Whpq (talk) 15:31, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What shall I disclose if there is no conflict of interest???? I do not agree with you re the conflict of interest. as already explained, I do not have any financial or any other income whatsoever. I did this from my own will! In such case, then all articles should be deleted, as in some way or another they all have some sort of 'conflict of interest' and am disappointed that my case is being judged in this way. anyway, can you kindly inform how shall I edit the article? and how shall I provide you with a permission from the copyright holder? I am very disappointed that I am being judged this way.. totally unfair Mammu1983 (talk) 15:40, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
dear Whpq, may I also remind you that here we are living in Malta, a small island, with only 500K inhabitants. Most of the people in Malta know each other in some way or another, and as already explained, we were school mates around 25-30 years ago and still have respect for him as a person. I feel I am being penalized, both myself, as well as, Jonathan Attard himself, as again, in some way or another, all the people editing the profiles of Maltese politicians in Malta do know them, and in that case there are a lot of conflict of interests! again, I shall stress out that there is NO conflict of interest or financial income, but i feel that we are being penalized without a purpose Mammu1983 (talk) 15:44, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please take note of what you are being told. You do have a conflict of interest in Wikipedia terms, regardless of what the special circumstances may be. All you're being asked is to declare that COI and not to copy content word-for-word from other sources. Is that really so much to ask? Deb (talk) 16:06, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thanks Deb, I appreciate your response. So, first thing is that the text has been amended and paraphrised already. second thing, can I kindly ask how shall I declare COI please, since I am being to do so (though is not the case) appreciate your kind help Mammu1983 (talk) 16:08, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone can help? How shall i proceed? Mammu1983 (talk) 20:35, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
can you please help ? :-( i listed the COI as instrcuted, how shall i proceed now? Mammu1983 (talk) 17:34, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's also a good idea to declare your COI on your user page, User:Mammu1983. Note that we don't have "profiles" here, not a single one. We have articles. You should now propose edits on the article talk page in the form of an edit request(click for instructions). 331dot (talk) 10:04, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
apologies for using the term 'profiles', i meant articles. the thing is that I am continously being told that even after paraphrasing, this is not being accepted :-( Mammu1983 (talk) 10:06, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes; having compared the draft with the source, you changed very little. In any event, the main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic. In this case, you were using his official government biography as a source- this is not independent as it is written by his employer(the government). Wikipedia is interested in what people unconnected with him say about him. 331dot (talk) 10:14, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
appreciate your communication. ok granted, but if I had to explain his history, I had to cite, no? and in that case the official page was the best site to cite from. that was the reason why I referred to that page. otherwise I wouldn't know anything re his biography - hence I used the governmental site to cite from. it is also an open source reliable site Mammu1983 (talk) 10:17, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ask for help[edit]

I would really like someone to guide me accordingly to edit such page - once again, I'd like to inform you that there is no conflict of interest as is being referred above! i am begging for some one to guide me how shall I edit the article , as most probably i am missing something it seems Mammu1983 (talk) 16:06, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Under Wikipedia's definition, you do have a conflict of interest. As already stated, you may make edit requests on the article talk page. As an alternative, you may try again with a draft and request the draft take the place of the article stub submitting it through Articles for Creation. -- Whpq (talk) 00:29, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Go to Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and read the guidelines there. If you cannot follow the advice given above or understand the guidelines, you will not be able to edit. Note that no one will read the messages you put on your page unless you figure out how to communicate using the methods described here. Deb (talk) 04:29, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"We used to be schoolmates" counts as a Wikipedia conflict of interest. Add that to your User page. The article now exists in a much shortened form. Given your COI, you are limited to putting proposed additions - with references - on the Talk page of the article. David notMD (talk) 12:36, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
COI has already been included on my page. Does that mean that i will not be able to contribute to the article now? As all my listings are being removed Mammu1983 (talk) 14:13, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
