I am continually disgusted and frustrated. I made some simple additions to the page about Aethelred the Unready yesterday, and as always, the former writer rushed in and reverted it. He or she could not possibly have even given my changes consideration because those things I added were simply historical detail and are accurate and widely accepted history. They are not controversial facts by any means. This seems to happen every single time I add something small to a page. I am an editor by profession; I can't tell you how many times I correct grammar, punctuation, or correct a sentence for clarity, and it is immediately reverted to the incorrect! I just don't understand how you can pretend to maintain a site of any quality, if people who are making sound, accurate changes or adding sound information are continually reversed. Am I misunderstanding some rule? I am to the point where I don't even bother, usually. Why bother? And I have to tell you, I have learned that if a person wants to research a subject seriously, Wikipedia is NOT reliable info. Momspack4 (talk) 01:13, 31 July 2019 (UTC) Lichen Craig
- Hi Lichen Craig, I'm sorry to hear about the frustration. At least the recent frustration seems to be mainly about Special:Diff/908625603. In this edit, Dudley Miles has removed the addition of content. Adding content requires verifiability; simply "knowing" something is not sufficient. All that is needed to restore the text is providing a reference. Especially for well-known facts, finding such references should hopefully be an easy task.
- If something is clearly incorrect and lacks a citation on Wikipedia, you can always remove it, justifying the removal with "WP:BURDEN" in your edit summary.
- Feel free to remove incorrect information, but when adding new sentences, please provide references for them. Wikipedia makes no guarantee of validity, but we try to do our best, for example by removing sentences that lack a reference. - Hi ToBeFree Thanks so much for all the advice. I re-inserted my additions and added citations. We'll see what happens now.
