Warning users[edit]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. 47.227.95.73 (talk) 19:02, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you. I have only redirected to the sandbox once as I've been writing talk page messages manually. Thanks for the tip. Spacebyte (talk) 19:06, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently been editing articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hi Spacebyte, please have a look at the "Restoring deleted content" section of the biographies of living persons policy. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:48, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Creation of a Programming Language, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. See WP:NOTESSAY. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:21, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have added more citations from varying sources. In my opinion, the article was definitely well enough to have stayed, and was better than many articles. It already had citations from very reputable, and many unique sources, and in my opinion should 100% be good for approval, however AFC always seems to find something wrong with an article. From here on, does this article need to be approved by AFC, or after their review, if it's declined may I see the issues with it and use my own judgement of if it's ready to be moved to the mainspace? Programming languages Design ...[edit]

Hi Spacebyte,

You may have noticed that I am gradually adding to the article you started Programming language design and implementation. I hope these additions meet with your general approval. Don't hesitate to improve my contributions. Feel free to discuss matters on the article talk page.

As an Open University project I have been designing and implementing a limited programming language, and have identified around 50 useful references. So at the moment I am just adding quotes from these references to the article. Murray Langton (talk) 11:07, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Finding many, and a wider variety of sources was very difficult. I managed to get ~10 to get the general idea on the article. Spacebyte (talk) 14:28, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 7[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of lists of lists, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page List of smartphones. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
