Hi! I am requesting help because the last time I submitted my entry the reviewer (Sulferboy) said all I needed to do was to add at least one citation to a source beyond a Cleveland outlet. I did this--I added citations from NPR and USNews--both national news, impartial secondary sources who covered Fedor's book. I didn't change anything else. I resubmitted it and then to my surprise because I did as Sulferboy instructed, I got rejected again but this time the reviewer said the entry was PR. This isn't PR--I am not connected to Scott Fedor. I heard Fedor interviewed on NPR and then I read his memoir. After discovering he's a notable person on a national level because of his personal story, memoir, work in the spinal cord injury community, and inspirational talks (including to the Cleveland Browns football franchise), I wanted to write a Wikipedia page about him. I looked at pages for other authors on Wikipedia to provide examples and I followed Wikipedia's instructions and rules for citations, appropriate secondary sources and tone, so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong? I have done everything you have asked to get this article up and published. There are plenty of other Board Game wikis, so why is this one getting knocked back? People want to know information about the game and they information is there in the WIKI.

As my first article I decided to write about a local track athlete that is "rising" in the sport. My husband had suggested him as he used to be his soccer coach. Anyways, the article like is Draft:Gregoire_Marsot, it was claimed that it was not notable enough. I read the requirements, and sure the subject doesn't have a Boston globe or NY times article (They'll have one soon in fact), but they have entries on them by reputable sources for the sport. For example, any athlete from Massachusetts would know Bay State Running and their interviews, but apart from local people from new England involved in the sport its hard to find people who know the source. Also, sure, the person doesn't have millions of followers or has qualified for the Olympics but they have potential and the fact that the Boston globe suggested an interview means that they are notable to some extent. In the track world he is very well known, and It's hard to show this in an article that's why I show the facts and running times/results, and qualifications (as well as an interview now), which are meant to show notability. These time are incredible. If the person to review this were to look up the times for 15 year olds they'd find this perosn is very high up the rankings.

@Carl J. Weber: The draft is written too much like an essay. I added a bunch of tags to the article to highlight the most obvious issues. In short, you cannot speculate, conclude or otherwise say anything that the sources did not say. Everything has to be verifiable to at least one source. Every statement should have a citation to the source(s) that directly support the statement. Encyclopedia is different to academic writing in this regard. Their music videos regularly surpass one million views and they have had many news articles written about them. They are going on a nation wide tour this year. Hi LewyLytton. Another reviewer has pointed you to Referencing for beginners. As an example, I've reformatted the first Complex reference so that it appears correctly (like the other four in the references section). Between the help page and the example, see if you can correct the other four (the Grammy's, F Word Magazine, genius, and warnerchappell) - the ones that appear as large numbers instead of small superscripts. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:34, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The laundry service was awarded by ISO for being maintaining an excellent standard and this award was covered by the top nigerian news agencies, such as The Nation and This Day. If both these news agencies and ISO has wikipedia pages, should they be considered a credible third party? I would appreciate if someone can answer these questions and help me learn what I'm missing.

Hi KylieTastic. Thank you for the response. I just checked and indeed I had added a wrong reference of the award coverage and misunderstood the organization that awarded it. Even though ISO had a role in organizing the event, you are correct, the awards were handed out by World Quality Alliance. I have come back with another research of 4 articles, published by the top newspapers of Nigeria, 2 articles are featuring the Laundry company whereas the other 2 articles are mentioning it in an article about a report that names the company as one of the leading laundry companies. Following are the sources:

I have updated the citations as advised by Sulfurboy and have added a new book citation of a nationally published and nationally available book that covers the subject matter. I also removed the two sources (NPR and USNews) that Sulfurboy advised did not qualify as secondary sources. @Lauriechittenden: Thank you for your response. You can resubmit the draft by adding the code {{subst:submit}} at the top, and saving it.
However, changing the tone and style in which the draft is written so that it reads like an encyclopedia article instead of like an advertisement may be difficult if your professional writing is in the areas of publicity, marketing, brand development, or public relations. You may have more success by providing sources that demonstrate notability and requesting that an experienced Wikipedian create the article. To do so:
  1. Go to Wikipedia:Requested articles and find a category under which to list your request.
  2. Describe the very basics of who Fedor is, no more than a couple of lines.
  3. Provide links to a number of independent reliable sources that have substantial information about Fedor.

@Sulfurboy: Earlier in this thread I informed the author of the conflict of interest guideline and Wikipedia's terms of use. They replied "I am not being paid and I have absolutely no stake financial or otherwise in this article or anything else I'd do on Wikipedia." You may be finding it hard to assume good faith, and of course you may be right, but it is unclear why you're addressing that discomfort to me. You've reviewed the draft twice, but haven't raised conflict of interest or advertising as a concern before, haven't nominated the draft for G11 speedy deletion, and haven't reported the author to WP:COIN. If there's some other action you think I should take to improve the encyclopedia, it isn't clear from your comment what that action is. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:42, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Worldbruce, Oh no, I'm sorry. I wasn't meaning for it to come across like I was putting any sort of burden or work on you. I just happened to scroll by and see that comment and thought I'd point that out for the benefit of you or anyone else who might scroll by. The draft has been outright rejected so I'm not too worried about tagging it with maintenance templates. If a new submission comes through then it might be appropriate then. Hi Sulfurboy and Worldbruce, Thank you for your help along the way on my first article. Yes, I have been an executive acquisitions editor at the major trade publishing houses and edit books for a living, however I am also a reader outside of work. I do not receive any income or have financial stakes from posting this article or any other kind of marketing copy, any other Wikipedia articles I might write, publicity, etc. work. Frankly, and not being snide here but honest, writing short copy like articles is not lucrative enough. In my work life I edit primarily women's fiction which is why my reading in my non-work life is mostly memoir and narrative nonfiction. I don't mean to sound irritable in writing and asking this, but need to ask--are you saying that because I work as an editor that anything I do on Wikipedia is going to be rejected? Again, I'm not being snarky here, I'd just like to be aware because I do take this seriously and it does take a great deal of time. So my second question specific to the Fedor article is could you be more specific--do I need to totally rewrite the piece or is this article going to be rejected no matter what? Again, your honesty is greatly appreciated so please don't worry about upsetting me in some way. I'd rather know the reality so an article about Fedor can have the best shot possible. I would like to inquire as to why another page on this topic ( https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kaliko_Kauahi&oldid=942668109 ) with only a few sentences was able to be accepted two days after this draft was rejected? I accepted the decline based on the feedback that the person herself was not notable enough, but now I feel as though the review process may have been unfair. If I'm misunderstanding how this process works, please let me know. I would like to ensure I am contributing in a positive way, and if there is a reason for this decline other than just the content here, I would like to know so I may improve. Thank you. @Mcheer372: Articles for creation is an optional process. The user who created the article simply created it. But, of course, now that we know that it exists, it won't be kept, because it does not have the sourcing and I tagged it for deletion. Creating article directly for new editors is discouraged for exactly this reason. In any case, this should not affect the draft in any way. However, the draft was rejected, so I am not sure there is anything to do about it. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 23:08, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thank you for the clarification, @Hellknowz:. I've spent so much time reading through guidelines and policies and everything for a while now, and I still manage to miss normal process info. And sorry Cmorozco (talk · contribs), definitely did not mean to throw you or your article under the bus. I misunderstood the multiple methods in which an article could be made and thought this article had been accepted through the same process in which mine was declined. Another general note (to one in particular) about the draft I submitted - I only submitted it twice (first draft, then again after revision and addition of more sources); the last submit, and possibly the reason for outright rejection, was by an IP I am not associated with.
