Project
Angel Stadium, Opening Day 2009

The Baseball WikiProject was formed on December 13, 2004, as a subproject of WikiProject Sports. The sport of baseball can trace its history back to the 1700s; it has survived scandal, the Great Depression, even World Wars, but has always remained the same game that our fathers loved to play.

As of September 2, 2013, there are over 55,000 articles within the scope of WikiProject Baseball, of which 265 are featured and 268 are good articles.

Because baseball has such a diverse history and has survived for so long there is much than can be done to help improve its related pages on Wikipedia. Over the past few years editors have developed models that can be used to develop high quality articles that can give readers full understanding of not only players, but coaches, franchises and even individual seasons. Though new concepts are being created daily, we have not lost sight of the past and a group is dedicated to developing articles about "Old-time Base Ball".

We hope that you can be a constructive member of our group and we welcome assistance in any area of our project. Everybody is welcome to add their name to the list of participants and visit discussion about the project. The Baseball WikiProject always strives to follow the Policies and guidelines of Wikipedia. We also have an internet relay chat channel at #wiki-baseball connect.

In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball....
Let us go forth awhile and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms....
The game of ball is glorious.
