An introduction to housing concepts and paradigms, including housing as home, shelter, a product, an asset, a commodity, a human right, and a driver or divider of health and quality of life. The course will start with an overview of different housing paradigms before discussing contemporary issues in housing, including housing affordability, gentrification, homelessness, building technologies and design, alternative housing arrangements, and the connection of housing to the climate crisis. Course topics will be flexible to accommodate students’ interests.
