Help Project Page Construction

Help constructing the project page would be unbeliveably appreciated. Thanks, Anonymous Dissident Utter 01:54, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

The Malta Wikiproject has now started. See the project page for more details! Anonymous Dissident Utter 09:19, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Description: Ok, as the name suggests, this is a wikiproject focusing on the European country of Malta. I believe it needs coverage because of the large number of articles listed under the category of Malta. I also think this project needs to be created because it details an actual nation, a very important and widely-scoped subject. The wikiproject, if successful, could possibly also cause the birth of several other descendant projects, such as the History of Malta etc. Thus far, i have not created even a temporary page for the project, because I want to see how many people would be interested in such a project first. If you are interested in helping to found, become a member of, or simply help out with the Malta Wikiproject, please add your name to the list below:

  3. Rhialto 06:11, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

If you are interested, please do sign your name, because, at this early stage, all the help possible would be appreciated. Thank you, —ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 09:30, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

We now have 3 people. Once the count reaches five, I'll be happy to start preparations. Thanks for your enthusiasm, Teh Ferret and Rhialto.
I was/am starting a proposal for a WikiProject on European Microstates. Malta would fall under this heading. Perhaps we should combine together coordinate better coverage? Just post on my talk page and we can discuss it if you have any questions/interest. You guys could continue to focus on Malta specifically and we'd have more momentum getting a larger project off the ground. matt91486 04:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Crest + ToC

On the project page, the crest is blocking the Table of Contents in part; I'm not sure why it's happening and it might just be a browser issue for me; just wanted to relay that. matt91486 01:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Well it's working just fine for me. Anonymous Dissident Utter 06:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
I'll see if I can't get a screenshot or something. matt91486 14:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
I have it to, i find it quite annoying. Teh Ferret 22:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Merge with Discussions Page?

It might be worth proposing a merge of Wikipedia:Malta-related topics notice board into this WikiProject more generally, since that seems to be largely out of use, and has the ideal Shortcut redirect for this project. matt91486 14:19, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

As the originator of Wikipedia:Malta-related topics notice board (but not the owner, this is Wikipedia of course) I was thinking along similar lines. But please do read Wikipedia:Regional notice boards - there are some differences in scope and purpose. I think that the WPM, generally, concerns working together on a focussed subset of articles to improve them. Whereas the MRTNB is a broader scope way for Malta-interested folk to hear about new issues - such as AFD, articles in search of factual backing, etc, even if those issues pop up and are outside of the scope of a WPM subproject.
Here are some rough thoughts and proposals:
  1. I don't think there are any active discussions on MRTNB - if there were, they should definitely stay where they are to not disrupt their users
  2. Archive anything on the MRTNB that is done or just plain dormant - it may be the majority of the page
  3. Display a prominent link to WPM from MRTNB and vice versa
  4. For any project not done listed on MRTNB - maybe all projects, with some in a 'proposed' phase - move them over to WPM, possibly to a 'ideas of projects to do'.
  5. Continue to use MRTNB for notices AFD etc. WPM can use MRTNB for communication of 'needs' to the larger community which may not follow WPM
  6. As to moving the shortcut, it should probably come to a vote. MALT is shorter than MALTA.  :)

I have cleaned much of the 'done/inactive' stuff from the MRTNB to its archive. Perhaps the 'projecty' stuff can go to a 'future WPM' area, the 'things to check' should probably stay there, and there should be some sort of link from WPM to MRTNB. Then, MRTNB can remain just as a notice board. 「ѕʀʟ·」 23:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I think I have done all of the cleanup that needs to be done for now. And, I made links between the two. So, I think, the merger, or, repositioning, should be done. 「ѕʀʟ·」 07:27, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Assessment graph thing

As some of you have noticed, i'm also trying to start a weasel wikiproject, but not having any luck. Anyway this is the assessment graph i took from my weasel wikiproject, And does anyone know what this graph is called?

Fell free to use/edit/take this for the sake of the malta wikiproject. Teh Ferret 22:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! (its called the quality scale) Anonymous Dissident Utter 06:24, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Ummm is this to be filled in manually? is there a bot do do it for us? or should I be getting off my lazy ass and writing such a bot? --Inkiwna 15:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Already done automatically. just had to find it. 「ѕʀʟ·」 15:25, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Flag of Gozo?

Hi, I'm working on articles related to Gozitan football and I just wondered if there is a flag for the Island. It is a part of Malta I realise, but for example Sicily has its own flag as well as the Italian one, so do Yorkshire as well as the English one. The only thing I've found so far is a coat of arms[1]. - The Daddy 23:58, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Even though I founded the project, I'm no expert on Malta, but you could sure ask one of our other mebers, or even put it on our to do list. (sorry for the late reply, by the way) Thanks, Anonymous Dissident Utter 07:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I have somtimes seen flags using the same theme as the coat of arms, i.e. the three hills. But as Far as I know there is NO official Flag of Gozo. --Inkiwna 02:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm Maltese and have never seen a Gozitan flag. If such a thing exists it is not officially recognised. Kalindoscopy 15:37, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes- there is an official flag of Gozo and it can be found on this Wikipedia Article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flags_of_Malta. User:Jmasini —Preceding undated comment added 09:43, 4 September 2009 (UTC).

Pronunciation

Hi. I just wrote an article for the Tarxien Temples. While I've heard "Tarxien" pronounced, I'm not sure exactly which IPA characters would best render the Maltese word. I sort of guessed, but it would great if a native speaker or someone more familiar with the language could double-check the rendering. Thanks. Alekjds talk 17:46, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

I have no knowledge of Maltese language as far as IPA in concerned, but 'x' can often render 'z'. Sorry for the late reply. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 01:59, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I just added IPA to Ħamrun in response to an old request. x is not z but sh. (nevermind) You can find IPA for Maltese under Maltese language#Alphabet. It would make a great sub-project to add pronunciation to some of those tongue-twister Maltese articles. :) 「ѕʀʟ·」 23:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC) ( whose mobile phone is named Iriq just because it can be ))

Proposed deletions (WP:PROD)

I wonder about listing these on WP:MALTA and keeping specific projects on this wikiproject page. See above discussion. 「ѕʀʟ·」 16:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
OK, please put proposed deletions on WP:MALTA. 「ѕʀʟ·」 07:28, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
I've made a note of this, thank you (see diff). --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 23:59, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. The theory is that WP:MALTA can serve for broad based announcements (and we want broad ing of WP:PROD), whereas the project pages are more specifically focused to specific collaborative tasks du jour. 「ѕʀʟ·」 04:41, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Coat of Arms of Malta

I have started re-creating in SVG the coat-of-arms of local Councils commons:Coats_of_arms_of_Maltese_Local_Councils. I do not know how to draw, only how to use inkscape, so any help is appreciated

Also Category:De Redin towers seems to be in a very incomplete state. Is anyone interested in tackling this. I can do the photo's and the wikification, but not the History.

Anyway is this the right place to propose stuff for the to-do list? I've got a huge private list ... but am too busy to tackle it :-(

--Inkiwna 15:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

I think there should be a 'possible todo' section somewhere. I'll try to make it. Wikipedia:WikiProject Malta/Todo ideasѕʀʟ·」 00:16, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

nesting nesters

I made a request to make our banner nestable. Someone caused the WPM banner to be invisible on Talk:Valletta by attempting to nest it. FYI. 「ѕʀʟ·」 23:34, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok. Thanks for that. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 23:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
done! 「ѕʀʟ·」 16:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

WPM templatization, by category or parent article:

how to divide up important ones in Category:Malta?

How do you mean? We already have several sub-categories based on other factors... -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 21:34, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
I mean, to split the categories up so that I tag them. I'm still not sure how to assess articles so well, I guess I should just try it! 「ѕʀʟ·」 03:07, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Rabat on map of Malta

According to Image:Malta-CIA WFB Map.png, there are two towns in Malta called Rabat, one on mainland Malta and one on Gozo. But according to all the information I could find, there's only one Rabat in Malta, on mainland Malta's west coast. Could someone who knows a bit more about Malta check this out? AecisBrievenbus 23:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes. Rabat, as per Rabat means fortress. There is a Rabat, Malta on Malta Island and a Rabat (Victoria) on Gozo (from the Victoria page): Victoria is the name given in 1887 by the British government on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, at the request of the Bishop of Malta, Mons. Sir Pietro Pace. However it is often still referred to by Gozitans by its old name, Rabat.. Hope this helps. 「ѕʀʟ·」 06:19, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I have copied this discussion to the image talk page for that image, in case it is helpful to other consumers of the image. 「ѕʀʟ·」 06:25, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Article Up for Deletion

Hey, I was just notified that Bulebel Industrial Estate is up for deletion. It's pertinent to Malta,, so I wanted to post here in case anyone was able to expand the article to verify notability or anything. matt91486 05:33, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

hey, thanks. I added Industrial Estates in Malta let's see if it goes anywhere. 「ѕʀʟ·」 08:25, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Victoria vs. Rabat

This is a request for feed back on the name of the link to the article about Victoria/Rabat on the LC template. please comment here: Template talk:Malta-LocalCouncils. --Inkiwna (talk) 15:39, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
