- It's also not just a sample of Protochronism at its worst, but also a violation of WP:SYNTH, WP:PSTS, WP:FRINGE and so on, beginning with the claim that the Getae and the Thracians and the Dacians are the same. The fact that it's being moved to mainspace while the guy is still working on it only adds to the matter: this, as far as I can tell, is a candidate for AfD, if not simply speedy deletion. There is currently a bot request for a bot to create redirects to Romanian article titles containing the letters Ş and Ţ (S and T with cedilla) from the corresponding names using Ș and Ț (S and T with comma). If you have any opinion on this request, or any ideas on how to determine that a title is Romanian rather than Turkish, Kurdish, Zazaki, Azerbaijani, Crimean Tatar, Gagauz, Tatar, or Turkmen (based on the list at Cedilla#Use of the cedilla with the letter S), please comment there. Ceauşescu's trial: request for further opinion.
Hi. I came across the article about Nicolae Ceauşescu earlier today and removed a characterisation about his trial being in front of a "kangaroo court" for being unattributed and possibly politically motivated. This was reverted, and I've started a discussion on the talk page about the use of term. I really don't want to get entrenched in this fight again, so I plan so stay out of it and allow people with a greater knowledge of the subject, i.e. WP Romania, to discuss it among themselves. As far as I understand, this project is concerned with the expansion and addition of Romania-related articles on en.wikipedia. I have seen many articles on ro.wikipedia not respecting the policies (biased, not keeping a NPOV, unverifiable) or much too short. Merging noticeboard here
I'm proposing to merge/move the archives of Wikipedia:Romanian Wikipedians' notice board and it's talk page here. Both worked as rather fragmented discussion areas. To the uninitiated outside this WikiProject, it wasn't/isn't at all apparent where to go. Those papge have also been inactive for a year, so I've marked them such a while back. A single archive search box would be nice too, it that looks more complicated than the WT:MATH one because the built-in search doesn't appear to handle multiple prefixes. Ceauşescu's trial: request for further opinion.
Hi. I came across the article about Nicolae Ceauşescu earlier today and removed a characterisation about his trial being in front of a "kangaroo court" for being unattributed and possibly politically motivated. This was reverted, and I've started a discussion on the talk page about the use of term. I really don't want to get entrenched in this fight again, so I plan so stay out of it and allow people with a greater knowledge of the subject, i.e. WP Romania, to discuss it among themselves. This study published in an academic journal detailed the demographic impact of the war on France, the UK, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Romania and Greece. The total estimated increase in the number of civilian deaths during the war was 2,171,000, not including an additional 984,000 Spanish Flu deaths. The territory of Transylvania was part of Austria-Hungary during World War I. The following estimates of Romanian deaths, within contemporary borders, during World War I were made by a Russian journalist in a 2004 handbook of human losses in the 20th century. Total dead 748,000: including military losses 220,000 with the Romanian forces and 150,000 with the Austro-Hungarian forces and POW deaths in captivity of 48,000. However I do have a source on the Austrian occupation of Serbia that mentions mass starvation and famine caused by limited rations provided by the occupation forces and the forced confiscations of food and other materials. Also the Austrians subjected Serbia to a reign of terror that provoked a guerilla movement in Serbia. The Red Cross was in Serbia and reported on the horrific famine and epedemics during the occupation

- Ideally, "XXXX, Romania" should be used for names where there are other places of the same name only outside of Romania (e.g., Alexandria, Roznov). "XXXX, [County]" should be used for names where there is more than one place of the same name inside Romania (e.g., Dragomirești, Livada, Ulmeni). However, in cases where one city is much larger than other places of the same name (e.g. Slatina), "XXXX, Romania" might be better. Others cases where there is only one city of the name but several other entries that are not cities (e.g., Caracal, Deta, Negru Vodă) should use the form "XXXX (city)" but "XXXX, Romania" is probably OK, too. Romanian villages
The general rule applicable in en:Wiki is that any settlement which can be localized on a map qualifies for an article. However, this rule has been unilaterally and heavy-handedly considered unapplicable to Romania and Moldova where the articles have been limited to communes, while villages are only accepted as paragraphs of the communes articles. I objected to this and opened a discussion on the matter in the Village Pump under the title Villages. Though the discussion reached no consensus, it has been swept under the carpet and archived, without any administrator drawing anz conclusion.
That is why I am opening the discussion here, as it should be of more interest to WikiProject Romania.
1. While for other countries, for instance Germany, separate articles for even very small communities of around 30-50 inhabitants exist, for Romania articles for villages of several thousand inhabitants have been merged into the commune articles. There is no explanation why Wikipedia should consider Romanian villages less important than German ones. It casts an extremely negative image on Romania and Moldova. 2. Even more strangely, the rule does not apply to other countries in the region, such as Ukraine for instance. Therefore en:Wiki is now in the absurd situation in which a village in Southern Bucovina (Romania) does not qualify for a separate article, while a village in Northern Bucovina (Oblast Chervovtsy - Cernăuţi) can have a separate article. What makes these villages which have a similar history and culture so different, as to justify their being subject to different rules? Why is a village in Northern Bucovina more important than one in Southern Bucovina? 3.In Romania, communes are territorial units while villages are settlements. They are different entities. There is no reason to merge the articles on villages into paragraphs of communes. The history and culture of rural Romania is linked to the settlements which have existed for a long time before communes were established. The merging of the settlements with the administrative units presents a wrong image on the importance of the settlements in Romanian history and culture. 4. Villages are legal entities, which are established by laws, generally passed by the Parliament of Romania. If a village (not a commune) is important enough to justify a law, why is it not important enough to justify a separate article.
I consider that the rule as presently applied for the villages of Romania and Moldova is arbitrary and discriminatory, that it reflects a negative view on the settlements of these countries, depicting them as less worthy than similar entities in other countries. I therefore suggest that the general rule of allowing separate articles for any geographically identifiable settlement should be applied to Romania and Moldova too. I do not consider that these two countries are in any way second degree countries whose settlements are less important and deserve less attention. Afil (talk) 20:50, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think the idea is to expand first the communes articles. Most of them are stubs right now and adding more village stubs won't help a lot. The problem I am raising is the following: There are two different types of entities, defined as such in the Romanian legislation: communes which are territorial units, smaller than counties. Villages are settlements. The way this is presented in Wikipedia at present creates a confusion in the mind of persons who are not aware of this difference. In many cases territorial units have the same name whith settlement, which isthe seat of the unit. This happens in many countries. But having the same name should not pe construed as an equivalence. Whether it is a stub or not, a commune is a territorial unit and a village is a settlement. - Hmm, I am surprised. He worked on many communes articles. Anyways, I certainly think that it will be great to create articles for all communes and all individual villages. I understand your points and I am looking forward to see what articles you plan to create for villages and willing to help. But if you plan just to create thousands of stubs, I am not sure how will that help the reader. I think the key is creating content. Unfortunately very few times the stubs get expanded and they end up collapsed into parent articles. My main focus at this is on ancient history and archaeology, trying to categorize and organized archaeological sites and discoveries. In the need to point the reader to the right village I also created a lot of redirects for village names to commune articles. Also many times I categorize commune and village data on commons. For example: commons:Category:Villages in Alba County. These are small steps towards having detailed articles on communes and villages. There has been a brewing issue at WP:RM over WP:HOCKEY recommendations and how they should be applied over WP:COMMONNAME and WP:UE. Basically the hockey recommendation is that Diacritics shall be applied to all player pages, where appropriate as for the languages of the nationalities of the players in question. This is in fact a mandate that does not allow consideration of any other policy on naming. I think we need to resolve the issue of which naming convention we use for ice hockey players. Is it the one for the names of everyone else based on existing policy and guidelines, or do we have a blanket exception for one project? Is it the international departures hall?
As the image description of the Flickr image says, it IS the int'l departures terminal.
I know TAROM has its head office there (this says "International Departures Terminal, 2nd floor"). I assume the "TAROM" is there to mark the building as housing the head office

Rewrite and salvage Flora of Romania
I wonder if anyone be interested to contribute to the Flora of Romania article. It is currently proposed for deletion since in the current form it is just full of species. But I think it should be rewritten to focus on plant life and ecological zones in Romania instead. A good example is Flora of Ireland. Maybe some content can be taken from Romania#Natural environment and Protected areas of Romania to start with. But there is plenty of stuff to write about Romania's flora for sure. - Well, since that is pretty much settled, I'll bring an interesting issue: Commons:Template:PD-RO-photo -- I modified it to include the updates in the 2004 law on copyright. The main issue is the initial wording of article 149 paragraph 3 in the Law 8 of 1996. I would like to believe the analysis in the mentioned page is correct, but I'm not certain. - Bogdan, since my previous message, I found out about this court decision, which mentions the updated version of the article 149 paragraph 3, as if it was applicable since 1996. So, except the possible breach by Romania of the EU copyright directive (mentioned at Commons:Commons_talk:Licensing#Romania_-_extension_of_copyright), I find no reason against using the Commons:Template:PD-RO-photo template (for now). If (before being published in 2008 by IICCR) the photos were held in an archive that was not accesible by the public, they do not seem published to me. Hi all! There are a number of WikiProject tagging bots out there which can help with the tedious task of adding WikiProject tags to the Romania-related article talk pages. As you know, having {{WikiProject Romania}} on relevant articles has many benefits, including the automatically generated Assessment table, Article alerts and so on. The mentioned bots usually operate based on a list of categories related to a certain topic.
