I like to have some comments on this article. It seems there are some people who are adamant on not letting some information on wiki. I do not wish to be drawn into a 3RR war or dispute so I am not going to touch the article.

Edits to block out information link1, link2, link3.

As posted on User_talk:Sgpolitics, With regards to Asiaone's news article here, to quote the article, It is not the first time that Ms Ng is tying the knot. She did so in her mid-20s, but got an annulment shortly after.

Also User:Sgpolitics has posted on my talkpage, it seems to be a personal request.

Any thoughts on this? I will not edit the personal life section anymore at least for the time being but I reckoned someone is checking on the wiki page from time to time. If I should not have posted this nugget of information or I have done anything wrong with regards to the edits, do let me know. thanks Xaiver0510 (talk) 10:12, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

It sounds like Sgpolitics is acting on a personal request from the article's subject to remove the information from the article because it is perhaps seen as embarrassing, not because it is inaccurate. So far, there is no mention in Sgpolitics' posting that the AsiaOne article is factually wrong. Technically, if the information is accurate and reported in a reliable third-party source (and I would consider AsiaOne such a source), then it can be included in the article. It is not Wikipedia's policy to accede to requests for accurate information to be removed from an article just because it is potentially embarrassing to the subject. (I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that a general election is likely to be taking place soon?) However, since the information is not really very relevant to the subject's career, I think it is all right to remove all the information relating to her marital status. (In other words, don't mention her present husband either.) — Cheers, JackLee talk 15:00, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the comment/idea! Can I suggest you making a quick edit to remove the section? Reasons as per mentioned earlier. Xaiver0510 (talk) 15:57, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Done. — Cheers, JackLee talk 07:08, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I've restored the section. It's short, well sourced and NPOV, and it refers to a public figure who is obviously quite happy to talk her personal life with newspapers, so there's absolutely no reason it should not be in WP. Jpatokal (talk) 09:28, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh well, it was reverted again, shortly 30 mins later...... Xaiver0510 (talk) 12:42, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Jpatokal, perhaps if you feel strongly about the "personal life" information remaining in the article (I don't), you can start warning the users or IPs who remove the referenced information and request for them to be blocked if necessary. In any case, it is ridiculous to have a single line stating "Ng is happily married to Mr Graham Berry." It is unreferenced, and if that is all the "Personal life" section is ever going to say we might as well remove it entirely, as I did. — Cheers, JackLee talk 13:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Legal names vs common names

Per WP:COMMONNAME, people should be listed under the English names they're most commonly known as: thus Bill Clinton, not William Jefferson Clinton. This is pretty systematically violated for Singaporeans, eg. Kuan Yoke Loon Andrew (should be Andrew Kuan) and the even worse Ng Phek Hoong, Irene (should be Irene Ng), and it's time to start moving these to the common names. Jpatokal (talk) 09:31, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree. I moved "Ng Phek Hoong, Irene" to "Irene Ng (politician)". — Cheers, JackLee talk 13:38, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Songs of the Sea

This is the article/page I've created, Songs of the Sea. It is kind of expanded to how-ever it possibly can. I need help, please do give me some opinions. Also, I was wondering if Magical Sentosa, Sentosa Musical Fountain should be redirected to the page as well? --Iluvml93 (talk) 16:16, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Some references are from primary sources, aka from Sentosa itself. It will be better if there is a 3rd party source.Xaiver0510 (talk) 04:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Photographs of artifacts from the Belitung shipwreck

If anyone is heading down to the ArtScience Museum, could you please take some photographs of artifacts recovered from the Belitung shipwreck, which are being exhibited in the Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds exhibition on Level B2? I took some recently (see "commons:Category:Artifacts recovered from the Belitung shipwreck") but all I had was my iPhone so they are not great. — Cheers, JackLee talk 07:27, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Visiting Singapore on Monday 21st

Hi Singaporean Wikipedians :-)

I'll be flying from home (Sydney) to Barcelona this weekend and will be stopping in Singapore for 1 night - arriving in the evening of Sunday and departing at 11pm on Monday. I was wondering whether it would be possible to meet with Wikipedians who were interested in doing "GLAM" projects (see http://glamwiki.org ) so I could help you. I'm currently on a Wikimedia Foundation fellowship to help increase the capacity of the community worldwide to do projects with the cultural sector (museums etc.) This was the announcement of that Fellowship if you don't follow the WMF blog: http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2011/01/19/announcing-our-glam-fellow-liam-wyatt/ Just an idea! Please write on my talkpage or back here if you are interested :-) Thanks, Witty Lama 09:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, all. I have contacted Liam and am planning to meet him for an early dinner next Monday. If anyone else would like to join us, please e-mail him (or me, by using the link on the left side of my user page). — Cheers, JackLee talk 08:46, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Liam, you can also sign up for the Wikimedia Singapore mailing list for sending messages to the SG community. — Nearly Headless Nick {C} 11:07, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I placed a message about the above event on the mailing list before I saw the above posting. I've had one positive response so far. Anyone else who would like to meet Liam is welcome to join us (drop me a line to let me know you are coming). — Cheers, JackLee talk 11:32, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I was the original creator of this article, but it had since received various edits by other editor. The article seemed to have shifted from its main focus, and I was wondering if anyone would like to take a look to review and comment about it. I've also noticed multiple edits done by User:Maglame on the article which some of it is rather unnecessary. Help is needed/required. Thanks!--Iluvml93 (talk) 06:46, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

With the 2011 Singapore General Elections coming up, how about an effort to improve the current and past elections articles, various political parties and politicians' articles? Some are in need of a better writeup or touch up.

For example, we are missing Low Thia Khiang's photo for so long, maybe we can get a photo of him during a rally?

--Xaiver0510 (talk) 05:30, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Found a free photograph of Low Thia Khiang, but it's not a terribly good one. We could do with more photographs of the 2011 elections, so anyone out there who took some and are willing to license them to the Commons are invited to do so: see "commons:Category:Singaporean general election, 2011". — Cheers, JackLee talk 15:26, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of election images

I just wanted to inform all of you that the majority of election posters in this category have been nominated for deletion. SilverserenC 19:47, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I think these images are problematic at the moment. The political parties own the copyright in the posters, so actually taking photographs of them and uploading them to the Commons is a breach of copyright. We should write to political parties now and ask for permission for those images to be retained, and to photograph new election posters when they go up after 27 April 2011. — Cheers, JackLee talk 06:39, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I hope that you're able to do that. I'm not here to advocate one thing or another, i'm just here to inform you about the deletion nominations. SilverserenC 06:47, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I have sent e-mails to the National Solidarity Party, the People's Action Party, the Reform Party, the Singapore Democratic Alliance, the Singapore Democratic Party, the Singapore People's Party and the Workers' Party of Singapore. The answer is – none at all. Not a single response from any of the parties so far. Well, maybe they've been very busy because of the election. Let's see if any bother to reply in the next couple of weeks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 15:21, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello, all. I attended a conference on maritime archaeology at the Asian Civilisations Museum recently, and received a letter for complimentary entry to the Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds exhibition at the ArtScience Museum. As I have already been to the museum, I am happy to pass on this letter to an SGpedian on condition that he or she uses the opportunity to photograph artefacts at the exhibition for uploading to "commons:Category:Artifacts recovered from the Belitung shipwreck". The letter is valid till 31 July 2011, and I do not know if it entitles the bearer to view other exhibitions going on in the Museum as well. Those interested should e-mail me by visiting my user page and clicking on the link on the left side of the screen. Priority will be given to experienced photographers, so do let me know a bit about your photography experience when you contact me. Please get in touch by 30 June. Copyright infringements in Singapore-related articles

I've just reduced the following articles to stubs as they were blatant copyright violations pasted from the sources listed on their talk pages under Copyright problem removed :

In addition to the texts being a copyvio, they were full of promotional puffery and not remotely encyclopedic. I suspect there be many more Singapore-related articles with the same problems, espeically ones relating to organizations and biographies. It might be worth this project making spot checks. Note that one of them had huge chunks copied verbatim from the Singapore Infopedia whose web pages are clearly marked "All Rights Reserved. National Library Board Singapore"Voceditenore (talk) 09:14, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I can confirm that I'll be in Singapore from August 26-31. I'll be waiting for my visa to be released in Kuala Lumpur, so if that doesn't work out by August 31, I may extend my stay there. If ever, I hope to meet some of you guys! --Sky Harbor (talk) 14:10, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Name help

Hullo chaps! I'm creating a listing of the Anglican Archbishops of South East Asia. The first and third/current have their articles, but the second does not. His full name was "Datuk Yong Ping Chung", but I just can't tell what his article would be called (so I can redlink it) – I find references to "Yong Ping Chung", "Ping Chung Yong", "Datuk Yong", "Archbishop Yong" and "Archbishop Ping Chung"! In common usage, what are this man's forename and surname? And which way 'round should they be in Wikipedia? Many thanks in advance for your help! DBD 08:45, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Oh! Is Datuk a title?! DBD 08:50, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Datuk is indeed the Malay title, since he is a Malaysian from Sabah. In Southeast Asia, when an ethnic Chinese name has three parts, the first part is most likely the family name. In this case, it's Yong. Yong Ping Chung is the correct article name because Chinese names are almost never written in reverse order in Southeast Asia. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 09:01, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
So this fellow's personal name is "Ping Chung" and family name is "Yong", but he should be written "Yong Ping Chung", right? How about Datuk Albert Vun Cheong Fui? Ng Moon Hing? Joshua Chiu Ban It? Tan Sri Roland Koh? DBD 11:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Albert Vun Cheong Fui – surname: Vun; personal names: Albert, Cheong Fui.
  • Ng Moon Hing – surname: Ng; personal name: Moon Hing.
  • Joshua Chiu Ban It: surname: Chiu; personal names: Joshua, Ban It.
  • Roland Koh: surname: Koh; personal name: Roland. Tan Sri is another title used in Malaysia.

Verification needed on Honour_and_Passion TV series page

Hi all, would like your comments and assistance on this matter. Some of you may know that the article for Mediacorp TV series were constantly being vandalized in the past with a lot of fan-fictionish stuff. Recently ere has been a couple of weird edits on the article mentioned above. As the show is quite old, I wonder if any of you can verify if the added content is correct? As I explained in the page's TALK,

additions are similar in essence to previously identified and reverted vandalism [1] which were in turn taken from Uncyclopedia[[2]]. I had also tried googling for any mention of this new questionable content without success.

Hope for some replies soon, if this is the act of a persistant IP vandal I will have to request for page protection on the article fast. Zhanzhao (talk) 03:00, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

The language gloss template has been changed, all three pre-existing templates have been merged into {{Singapore-lang-mcphot}}. The new template will variably show Simplified Chinese, Pinyin, Hokkien, other Chinese, Tamil, Malay, and, English, depending on supplied parameters. This allows for gloss of Singaporean words, assuming English a place in primacy.

ie: warehouse: godown (Malay: gudang;Chinese (simplified): 仓库;( Mandarin Pinyin: cāngkù; );Tamil: கிடங்கு;)
ie: warehouse (Malay: gudang;Chinese (simplified): 仓库;( Mandarin Pinyin: cāngkù; );Tamil: கிடங்கு;)

I can adjust the English parameter to be equal to Malay, and make it Singaporean English link. Or just add a provision for Singaporean English; I can also add Traditional Chinese and Cantonese... considering the population of Cantonese speakers in Singapore, and that everyone used to use Traditional instead of Simplified Chinese. -- 76.65.128.132 (talk) 13:49, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
