Automotive

I wanted to bring to the attention of this WikiProject that the article Automotive industry in Thailand was created today via WP:AfC. The article is in excellent shape and nominated for a DYK. If anyone is interested in improving the article it could be within reach of GA if the prose, neutrality, and references can be touched up. Just thought you may be interested as the reviewer. Concerns about existence of temple

Hello, I'd appreciate it if anybody could help me wih my query about the existence of a temple added by an unregistered user to the Chiang Mai page. Graham87 06:00, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Picture requests?

Hi folks. I'm currently in ko Pha Ngan, will soon be in Ko Tao, and will spend a little more time in Bangkok. All I currently have for a camera is an iPad, but I suppose it's better than nothing. If you have any requests for pictures, let me know, I'll take some, to the best of my and my cameras abilities. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 09:54, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer! You can take a look at Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Thailand for a start, (though the category is somewhat under-utilised). --Paul_012 (talk) 19:16, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Can anyone search and confirm this 2007 HDI comparison really was published (in Thai?) in 2009. Otherwise the English article faces deletion. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Thailand provinces by Human Development Index. Thanks In ictu oculi (talk) 11:02, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Featured article candidate

The article about She Has a Name, a play based in Thailand, is a current featured article candidate. If you would be willing to review the article, your comments at the discussion would be greatly appreciated. Neelix (talk) 12:47, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Serious updating of political articles needed

I'm trying to learn a bit about Thailand's politics for the first time. The articles on politicians connected with the 2006 coup, the prime minister who was overthrown and subsequent primes ministers need serious updating. Reading them is like reading a thriller and not knowing the ending. What happened Sonthi Boonyaratglin, for example? Was he punished at all for overthrowing the elected government? And why did he have to resign from the army on his retirement age when he had just overthrown the democratically elected government? What's he doing in 2013? Likewise, what is the current status of Thaksin Shinawatra in 2013? The tense used in most of these articles is also the present tense when they should be past tense now. 89.101.41.216 (talk) 02:12, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Muay Thai article attacks

The Muay Thai article is experiencing multiple attacks, some in the form of section blanking, some in the form of self promotion. I'd like to propose that someone with rollback User rights revert the article to a stable previous version and Semi-protect the article to deflect future vandalism. Thanks! — Jdcollins13 (talk) 16:42, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

I've reverted the article to what appears to me to be the last good version. Semi-protection is unlikely to be granted if requested at WP:RPP since there isn't frequent enough vandalism, at least I don't see it. I'll also note that nearly the entire article lacks references. The only citations are in the lead, which usually shouldn't contain references since it should be a rehash of referenced material in the body of the article. Someone who is familiar with the topic area and where sources can be found may want to give some attention to the article. --TreyGeek (talk) 17:11, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

AfC

Could someone have a look at this submission and verify it's source? Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 15:46, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

The single reference is a 1941 law adjusting the boundaries of the province. It doesn't directly support all of the article content about the gaining and loss of the territory. A better reference can be found in Wyatt, David K. (2003). Thailand : A Short History (2nd ed. ed.). Chiang Mai: Silkworm Books. pp. 245, 251–252. ISBN 9789749575444. {{cite book}}: |edition= has extra text (help). I'm not familiar with AfC process (the page header still lists it as not awaiting review), but with an addition of this reference it could be accepted right away. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:25, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
A better direct source for the annexation is the French-Thai friendship treaty of 1941, especially [1], or, as a indirect reference, the autobiography of Direk (Chaiyanām, Dirēk (2008). Thailand and World War II. Chiang Mai, Thailand: Silkworm Books. ISBN 9749511336.. It seems there is no Royal Gazette announcement on the creation of these provinces, only the establishing of the provincial courts was announced [2] and the subdivision of these provinces into Amphoe [3]. andy (talk) 11:12, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Map of Isan provinces - update needed

Could someone with a bit of graphic skill please update the File:Isan provinces.png to include the new province of Bueng Kan. The original uploader is no longer active. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:58, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

I have edited the map, but there seems to be some time delay in it appearing. After first upload it looked unmodified, but after I uploaded again, the first was ok, the second unmodified. When editing the description it looked good however. −Woodstone (talk) 04:27, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Doesn't seem to have worked. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:40, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Must be a caching problem somewhere. Can you look at the file history. Doe you see the correct one? To me the last version looks wrong, but the pop-up when I hover over the "file" link up here, is correct. −Woodstone (talk) 09:50, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
I noticed that User:McDogm/76 has a link to the file. There it appears modified to me. −Woodstone (talk) 16:57, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

notability notice on new article, I'm new here

I just created a Tourism Association of Koh Samui article and thought I'd done it right, but it has a notability tag on it already, even though I had lots of citations which I thought were appropriate. Wouldn't such a major resort area's organisation be noteworthy enough for an article? Any tips on what I could do to fix things or find maybe Thai-language citations that could support it? Advice please. I plan on writing an article on the oil drilling controversy in the Gulf and on major tourism items here like the Big Buddha. I want to get things right, advice and help please.AlfredShonfeld (talk) 13:09, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

A debate has arisen about the naming of the page about Thailand during World War 2. There are apparently two views, one which I tend to subscribe to is that the Japanese did not occupy Thailand, and the other that they did. This has led to the question about the articles name.

My reasoning is that, from historic sources, the Thai government of the time initially informally agreed to the Japanese armies transiting through Thailand for their invasions of both Burma and Malaya. When the Japanese requested (to all intents and purposes in the form of an ultimatum) consent the government delayed responding and the Japanese entered Thailand anyway. By midday of that same day the Thai government consented to the Japanese passage and allied themselves with the Japanese.

From my reading it appears that the Thai government was left to govern the country and rewarded (if that is an appropriate term) for their co-operation with the northern Malay states and some Burmese territory. I am interested to know what project members think, whether this is a controversial matter, and what title is appropriate for the article. NealeFamily (talk) 22:49, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Can't comment on the rest, but so far as I know Britain had already surrendered control of the northern Malay states long before WWII.....remember reading about that, I th ink during some readings on Mongkut here in Wikipedia.....and why any land deal the Japanese made would have been honoured by the Allies after the war I just can't see. Britain and Thailand had already come to terms about that, as I recall in relation to a territory swap elsewhere; I'll see if I can find that again.....and yeah no doubt this is a touchy issue overall. Ally or occupied or "?" what exactly....language is political, and so are titles.....Skookum1 (talk) 04:22, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Skookum1 - the more I have read the more I felt that there could be differing views. Hopefully contributors can cite reliable sources to support the for and against. The article may need to reflect both versions. NealeFamily (talk) 04:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
I understand that may be keen to revert the move, since indef-blocked user Pelaisse was previously engaged in POV-pushing on the topic. However, my reasoning (as given on the article talk page) still stands. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:55, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
PS Filing a formal RM on the talk page would probably be the best venue for such discussion. Can't say I'm interested in participating though. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:58, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
I've filed an RM. Please continue discussion at Talk:Japanese occupation of Thailand#Requested move. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:25, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Rayong oil spill article created

I just created this, after adding it to List of oil spills. I don't know enough about what kinds of detail and content are expected but gave a rough start to it. Lots more is needed, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of coverage so hope for other WP:THAILAND editors to work on it. I just don't know where to start, or how to organize all the information is out there. It's an ongoing news event, I know there's a template for that but don't know what it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AlfredShonfeld (talkcontribs) 12:49, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

In that article I made a redlink to PTT Global Chemical Plc as I'm not certain that that's the same as PTT Plc, or a particular subsidiary of it. Additions to the Rayong and Ko Samet and other articles in the area seem to be needed, also, not sure about on PTT Plc if it's not the same company. Or should PTT Global Chemical Plc just redirect to the PTT article. - User:AlfredShonfeld —Preceding undated comment added 13:14, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
It's a subsidiary for which we don't yet have an article. A redirect would be appropriate, but it should probably be at PTT Global Chemical, per WP:NCCORP. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:00, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Where should Siam redirect?

Where should the Siam page redirect? Please discuss at Talk:Siam. —  AjaxSmack  03:04, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Post-Thaksin politics articles

The various post-Thaksin political crises articles need to be reorganised. There should be an overview article summarising the events, and the articles should be renamed for consistency.

I suggest that we have an article covering the History of Thailand since 2001 (taking off from History of Thailand since 1973, which should probably be renamed History of Thailand (1973–2001)). This would be the period since Thaksin first came to power. This is a rough timeline of the events for which we have or should have individual articles:

Obviously, this is a rather huge (and complicated) task—one I'm not going to attempt at the moment. I'm putting up this structural draft in case anyone wishes to try his/her hand at it. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:51, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

The proposed amnesty bill and the popular outcry and opposition it has created probably deserves its own article.--Paul_012 (talk) 11:42, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

I agree, without an overview article it's all very confusing, there should be one, and also a category page (I could probably be of help for the latter). Charles Essie (talk) 17:29, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Doembang Nangbuat District

Is there an article about Doembang Nangbuat District under another name? Allgatorskinz (talk) 11:10, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Yes. It's at Doem Bang Nang Buat District. I've created a redirect. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:02, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Sources

Hello, Could anyone look to see if reliable sources for Suphot Dhirakaosal could be found? I'm not finding a whole lot in English, but I'm guessing there might be Thai sources. He's being discussed at [5]. Thanks, Hobit (talk) 14:30, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Help with an article?

Hi! I've got a big favor to ask. I came across the page for the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau. It was up for speedy as a promotional article, as it was pretty blatant. There was also a conflict of interest, as the person who created it is an employee for TCEB. Now the thing is that I don't think that this was done purely out of promotional intent and I do think that there was good will there, which is why I removed all of the content and reduced it to a stub. In any case, would any of you be willing to work on this? I can't guarantee that it'll be safe from deletion, but I think it deserves more than a quick delete as a speedy. Looking on WikiProject Thailand for any Lao speakers wanting to write article on Lao Airlines Flight 301

I understand Thailand has some Lao speakers. If any Lao speakers are on here, is anyone interested in starting a Lao article on en:Lao Airlines Flight 301?

New article: Thai addressing system

So I wrote up a first draft of Thai addressing system. I only have a vague grasp of all this, so corrections, additions and, best of all, authoritative sources (English or Thai) would be very welcome. Jpatokal (talk) 03:18, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Phuket Province -> Phuket

I have proposed moving "Phuket Province" to simply "Phuket". Please chip in. Jpatokal (talk) 04:40, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Bump, the discussion could use a few more viewpoints. Jpatokal (talk) 23:51, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
I don't see why this is up for discussion. The current article name follows the naming convention for Thai provinces as Phuket Province. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:24, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Because the article is about the island, not (just) the province. Please see discussion at the link above. Jpatokal (talk) 11:13, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
